Thank you for the welcome! I have noticed the site is not very active.. I'll pass along the addy, if you like. Do you have a banner? I could sport it in my live journal. (which is where I found this site to begin with. ) Thank you for the invite to the gathering on Saturday. I won't be able to make it to this one, but I will surely keep checking this site for a future date and hope that I will be able to attend at that time! Also, thanks for the info on the pen & paper games. I see about checking that out sometime! Have you gamed there, yourself? How are they towards new people.. and, ladies? I'm fairly easy going, and not too shy about talking around new people... but I've never been involved in a group like that so I don't know what to expect!

Here is a link to our banner, thanks for the offer to promote the site: www.mnsi.net/~moeandde/wgr/wgranimate2.gifWe are also on Facebook now and can be found at: www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=78735722971I have been involved with a few things at Hugin and Munin. Previously I have played some Dungeons and Dragons Mini's Tournaments. All of these were a ton of fun and having walked in with with barely an idea of how to play, I have to say the players were great and more then willing to put up with a N00B. I currently play in and sometimes run Dungeons and Dragons 4th edition at the store as well. These games have turned out really great and have introduced me to some awesome gamers I probably wouldn't have met otherwise. Currently one weekend is for experienced and established players but the off weekend is set up specifically for new players and players wishing to try out new characters. There are usually openings (we will run two tables if we get enough people), and both Dan and I (Dan is the organizer and usually runs the games, I fill in now and then) are more then willing to teach the games as our our regular players. Our next intro/low level game is on the 20th starting at 1:00. Just let us know if you are interested in joining and we will reserve you a spot. Now I haven't checked out any of the weekday gaming at the store, but the owners are great people and I can't see it not being a fun good time or any of them having problems with new players. Regarding Gender, the regular evening group currently has two Women in it, and we have had at least one more join in for an afternoon session. It's not an issue.

I've been playing in the evening group at H&M and gender is definitely not an issue. The fellow that usually runs the games is very easy going and quite patient with new players. I would definitely recommend trying it out!
I think it's odd that the board is so dead. If you look at the stats we get 60-100 visitors a day. That's a hell of alot of lurkers. When we host a GT we usually get at least 10 to 16 people out. They must keep coming back here to find out about the GTs, yet none of them ever post. (Yeah I'm talking about YOU Steve and Julia ;D )
Anyroad, welcome. It's nice to see another fellow lady gamer join the forum.

I kinda spaced for a few days and won't be able to make this weekend.. but I will keep checking this board for future weekends and surely attend in the future. Thanks for the welcome, though.. it is very comforting to have N00B support. Also, for anyone interested, I have MSN and would love to talk to more likeminded gamers! Just tell me in the message thingie where you got my addy from and I'll add you lickity-split! enigmatic_trip@hotmail.com !!!

Hello, gamers.
I'm... uh... passing through, I suppose, but in Windsor for an as-yet-undefined while. I've been bored, and restless, and so I thought I'd seek out a nearby demographic of gamers and see if I could find a place I feel a little more... at home, I guess, than the women's shelter. Adventure's on. I hitch-hiked here. I have stories if anyone wants 'em.
I'm nineteen. I'm a gamer girl... geek-in-training as dubbed by the gamer community of Sydney, Australia, where I was living a few months ago. I don't know a whole lot of systems, but I can tell you honestly that I dragged up a little game group in Killaloe, a little town of 700 North of Peterborough, and kept that one story going as Killaloe's sole DM for a year and a half. I can also tell you that I remember drawing up mazes with dots that were meant to correspond to monsters and treasures, and playing imagination games to the effect of un-structured D&D with my half-brother at the tender age of six, maybe even less... trying to design a game system before I knew D&D was a real game, that actually had rulebooks and a real community out there.
I'm not always stable. I'm pretty sure I suffer from undiagnosed depression and some sort of anxiety disorder. My friends insist I'm still worth being around. I hope some of you guys agree.
I favor narrative, sandbox-y play with psychology, politics, and similar things active in the game-world. I love a good engaging story.
Know how to play MTG, though I don't have my own cards.
And, arrogance to say it or not; I am intelligent - I learn fast. Introduce me to other game systems if you could use or welcome another player.
I guess I'm just trying to say: Hi. What's there to play in this town?
Oh yeah... and my name's Emily.

I am Z-Day. I am a gamer in this union town known as Windsor. I own a wii and like to game on my PC. I am closely awaiting Batman: Arkham Asylum and Starcraft II. I used to be part of a large official LARP group in Hamilton known as the Camerilla, a 30+ player group, and have been part of White Wolf's Vampire: The Requiem, Werewolf: The Forsaken and Mortal games.
I like to make amateur movies when I can and can find people willing to follow through and make them with me. Another hobby of mine is armor crafting/smithing. I have been known to make chain and plate mail.
I have an overly creative mind and can utilize it into almost any visual form such as drawing, painting, sculpting, prosthetics, makeup, graphics design, special effects, props building and more.
Here is an old example of my work:

Welcome to the WGR Z-day.
I know the Nero Group was looking to start up a Boffer LARP in the area. That would combine your LARP XP with your Armoursmithing. Not sure if it ever got off the ground though. The Nero team were pretty frequent posters here who suddenly disappeared.
Just wondering, are you at all involved with The Windsor Zombie movie?

Hello dear men and maybe some women of their own worlds.
I have taken my user name from the fact that I have a slight obsessive-compulsive disorder with the number five. Everything I do or day in some very complex math equation equals five or a base of five.
I looked this site up on google being a shut in I wished to find a dungeons and dragons group to join.
I am a genre buff on almost every cult following mainly because if I see a movie I watch it and all its sequels at least twenty five times. However I never watch a movie unless its beginning to end, and its the first of its series if its my first time watching it, and proceed onwards.
I would prefer since I live out in the county for a closer group, but Windsor seems to be the determent.
I also love to debate over genre themes particularly if two genres come into contact.
Glad this site exists and hope to find a group soon.

Hi Mr 5! I'm surprised that you play Dungeons & Dragons if you're obsessive numerologically, because the fifth level is pretty lame in that game, and they're only on their fourth edition. If you like equations, you should try Traveller (now in its 5th edition,) or Hero system (which just released a 6th edition, so you can probably get the old books cheap.)
It doesn't take a complex equation to find a power of five anywhere, because five to the power of zero is one, and so every single thing out there equals five to the zero.
How did you like the movie "Number 23"?
Hail Eris, Isaac

Most people don't know is every probability type games are based in a common power, and mind you it revolves around everything. I don't play DND because it fits into my convulsive I play DND because I enjoy it. I just naturally work my disorder into it, and if I were to go into the math I use everyday you would literally need to be me since I was two to understand, why I say what I say or do what I do.
Everything I do in my LIFE TIME is tracked to be equal to power of five mentally. It doesn't essentially give me a advantage or a dislike for somethings it just something I work with in my life, and hobbies.
I also have checked other RPG's and their are only two other pen and paper rpg's I oven and love James Bond RPG and the Real Ghostbusters. Both are discontinued, but classic, and fun either way.

To answer the other questions, Jim Carry should stick with talking out of his ass, and you should try living everyday finding new ways to make whatever you do come to the power of five, by doing sometimes confusing, and random things.
It does get pretty difficult. In particular eating corn on he cob.

Just wondering, are you at all involved with The Windsor Zombie movie? I attempted to however, after brief discussion with the creator, they decided not to use my skills or ideas. Most likely due to hubris. I dont mean to come of cocky but I did offer them lots of ideas and resources to greatly aid their movie but oh well.

Hola! My name, to all the people I see online and at conventions, and just about everywhere else, is Vessa. No, that's not my real name, but it might as well be at this point ^.^ I've been gaming on and off for a large number of years, but it's been a struggle for the past few to find time to game, work, and deal with life. That, and it seems schedule problems plauge our gaming group something fierce. I am a fan of 3.5 D&D, and am quite enjoying a game we call 'Video Game' that is done in BESM revised second edition. Pretty much we, as ourselves, are launched into a VR type world that is called Merge, and is a mash up of all different types of games, and now, movies and books. Pretty messed up, especially since some of the head guys are the Elder God from Soul Reaver, Morganna from Hack.dot series, and Jenova from FF7. Oh, and a really nasty GAME OVER mist that rips us to pieces. That guy really sucks ^.^ I am part of a pseudo-larp group, called Windsor Grand Melee. It is an offshoot of Amtgard, and involves boffer weapons and beating the ever loving fun out of each other. Right now me and another player are looking to start up a looser, less character intense version called Solstice, and are always looking for people to join up. Who wouldn't want to pummel someone with a foam sword? Good exercise, to say the least I had mentioned conventions at the very top, so I'll touch on that. I attend Anime based conventions, but like to talk to the gamers from it. Not so much the video gamers (they are fun too, but sometimes waaaaaaaaaay too intense about gaming, to a point of not being fun), but the tabletop and larp folk. I also run a human chess game at Anime North, and this year at Youmacon I am running Nerds of the Night, which is a 3 hour long nerd talk about classic games, shows, etc etc. And yes, I have cosplayed. My first cosplay that I love and cherise and made ALL by myself, is the Pirahna Plant from Super Mario Bros. The head still hangs out in my computer room ^.^ Well, that's all I can think of for now Don't be shy and drop a message or something to me. I'm always up for chatting with people, and trying out new games and the like. No point in saying I don't like something before I've tried it ~Vessa

Welcome to the WGR Vessa!
Your current Video Game really reminds me of something I ran back in the day using the Dream Park System. My players were all part of an online Reality Show where each week they would get tossed into a wide variety of situations. We ran Adventure games on the sides of volcanos, a Star Trek rip off, various super hero games, a Gundam style space opera and even played out scenes from the movie The Untouchables. To this day I think it's the best campaign I ever ran and most if not all of the players agree.
Feel free to use the local events sections of the forum to promote any LARPs going on, new or old.

Hi, I'm Alex.
I'm a grad student in Philosophy at UWO in London. My wife's recently got a job with the gov't in Windsor, so I'm in the midst of relocating further down the 401 and, like I do everywhere I go, I'm trying to suss out where and when I can go to scratch my gaming itch. This site is a remarkable resource in that regard - thanks a lot for maintaining it.
I started RPGing with MERP in the late '80s, and I also enjoy playing D&D, Dragonlance SAGA, Call of Cthulhu, Runequest, Cyberpunk 2020, and Warhammer FRPG, among others. I avoid non-Robotech-related Palladium (I was bitten by a Rifts powergamer as a young boy), and am leery of White Wolf games.
Video gaming wise, I stick mostly to old-skool RPGs and turn-based strategy games (Ultima VI, Planescape: Torment, Fallout, Master of Orion 2... etc). Post SNES, I haven't really kept up with consoles (...although I currently have a Wii and a friend's old PS2 in my house). I dabble in newer games on occasion (Bioshock and The Witcher being two recent favourites), but the sort of games I like seem to be a dying breed. Aside from Guild Wars, I haven't touched MMOs.
I still play Warhammer 40k (Eldar, with a hint of old-timey Orc), but I haven't been a big fan of the game post-3rd ed due to GW's uncanny knack for making otherwise servicable models obsolete with each new iteration of the Eldar codex and the core rulebook - it's almost like they plan it like that.
These days, most of my gaming comes in boardgame form (I'm Eldritch on BoardGameGeek). I enjoy a mix of mostly heavy Euros and Ameritrash, including War of the Ring, Agricola, Tigris and Euphrates, Twilight Imperium (...on occasion), Descent, Dominion, Arkham Horror, BattleLore, ...and a host of others. I play a fair bit of Magic, but only casually, as I haven't bought much post Invasion block.
I've been mostly impressed by the local shops I've stumbled into - and the fact that yon local GW had multiple copies of Space Hulk - that game cannot be found in London. I was very, very pleased to finally get a copy. I'm thinking of checking out this so-called Games and Grub advertised hereabouts - seems like a good place to get my finger on the pulse of Windsor's gaming community. Or something.
Cheers!

Welcome to the WGR edritch. I'm glad to see the site still serves a purpose, even if the forums tend to be a bit dead at time. Seems we have very similar gaming background and tastes. You will be a welcome addition to the local community. I suggest checking out The Chosen Realms gaming club if you want to put those Eldar to use. I personally haven't been able to stand 40K since Rogue Trader Hope to see you out this Saturday, and if not this time, then our next event... whenever that is.

[BEGIN SHAMELESS PLUG] I figure I should actually, you know, say who I am before posting anything ITC related, as that's probably a good way to meet some people. Anyway, I'm Alex, the current VP for St. Clair's Information Technology Club. My gaming interests lie mainly in shooters, but I'll play pretty much anything... Working my way through Dragon Age currently, with... 10 or so games on the backburner right now. Currently at St. Clair for the Computer Networking program, and I became the ITC VP this year after the previous administration stepped down due to lack of interest (not seeing it myself, but oh well). In-game handle is Cleric Techie, and that tends to stray over to real life as well (sometimes). And... so, yeah... [END SHAMELESS PLUG]

Welcome to the WGR suniahk!
Glad to see another video gamer on here. Sadly our video gaming content has shrunk significantly over the last few years. Though I have to admit our non-video gaming sections aren't that active either.
Thank you very much for posting the Lan Event. That's the kind of thing this place was made for, to get local gamers together!
Looking forward to Dragon Age myself, will have to wait for Xmas to actually try it out though (or perhaps after Xmas when I go buy it for myself after not getting it as a gift). I spend most of my computer/video gaming time playing Starfleet Commander on Facebook (sadly), Lord of the Rings online and Rock Band.

Welcome Ariesnova! We could use some more activity around here. I'm sorry to say the forums are somewhat dead. We get a ton of lurkers (just look at the number of visitors at the bottom) but it seems very few people have anything to say. For CCGs check out Hugin and Munin on Tecumseh road. You can find the details on the main WGR page under local shops w-g-r.comWe don't get too many CCGs at our gaming events but that's not because we don't want them. I know Ashaman is eager to teach everyone and anyone Warhammer: Invasion maybe the two of you could hook up at H&M and play a game. Chrono Trigger on SNES was awesome! One of the best RPGS ever. I've heard the recent remakes are even better, haven't tried them though.

Hello All My name is Andrew. I just joined your august group. I went to the mini con last weekend and had a blast. Great group of people. I have been gaming for many a year. I bought my 1st game from leisure world @ the Devonshire mall way back when. Most of you are probably too young to have gone to that store. Alais it is gone like my hair. Some of my friends have described me as a gaming fool. I pretty well like most type of gaming. I am also a history fanatic, so as a result I like to play a lot of historically based games. One of my main passions is historical miniatures. I have minis for the dark ages, WW I & WW II, american civil war, Alexander the Great, and the Zulu war. I just wish I could paint my minis better, so if there are any good painters out there and you have time, let me know. As I said before I love most games. Some of my favorite board games are Axis & Allies, Conquest of the Empire,Risk, Squad leader, and Arkham horror. I do love a lot of RPGS, my favorite is Call of Cuthulu, I have lost a munch of sanity over the years, but at least it was fun. I also really like trivia games. I am so glad I found your group. I was always on the lookout for people to game with. I was even considering to start my own group, but now you guys have done the heavy lifting, so I am off the hook. I look forward to meeting and gaming with you folks. So if anybody wants to try out historical miniatures or game just drop me a line.

Welcome Crunchyfrog.
Glad to have met you Saturday. Thanks for bringing something new for us to try.
I too remember Leisure world. I bought all of my classic GW games there (Warlock of Firetop Mountain, Talisman, ChainSaw Warrior, Curse of the Mummies Tomb, Fury of Dracula, etc). The purchase that really got me into gaming before all of that though was Issue 100 of White Dwarf. Of course back then I really wanted to try this miniature game 'eavy Metal where there were Aliens and Dwarves and Space Marines alongside Bikers and Race Cars... or so I thought.
Not into historical miniatures myself, but I could probably give you a few painting tips. There's a few painters here though as noted above we, regretfully don't get many posts here.

Hey Andrew, I bought my first game at Leisure World too, the D&D blue box. I miss that store... what's there now; a shoe store I'm also a history fan. I'm reading "The Rising Tide" by Jeff Shaara, which looked good at the library but it's too heavy with personalities and too light on technicalities, and the author thinks that the U.S. won WW 1&2. I was recently impressed by "The Pirate Queen: Queen Elizabeth I, Her Pirate Adventurers, and the Dawn of Empire" by Susan Ronald, which showed how economic necessity led to pirates posing as businessmen. I liked it, but I picked it up thinking that the title was "Queen Elizabeth, Her Pirate Adventures," which would have made a better story, I think. Everybody wishes that they could paint their miniatures better. I find that the quality of my painting is based on how patient I am while painting. If I use light coats and take my time, everything's great, but as soon as I try to swab a coat on to get finished faster, I f-up.

Thank you all for the warm welcomes. So far I have been to 2 of your events and throughly enjoyed myself. I like the friendly non overly competitive nature of the sessions. You guys seem to get it, that this is a pastime and it is for enjoyment, not to get your self all in a snit over a game.
About the miniature painting. I think I just need a person to show me the process with the shading and all that, and I think I may get a handle on it.
Thanks again for letting me in your group. Keep those dice rolling!
