The idea is to sit and have a few drinks and share conversation with people who share similar (gaming, video games, etc) interests. This will be the 6th time we've had one of these GTs. In the past we've played Dalmuti, Fluxx, Ivanhoe and other simple games.
The plan is to meet at the Kildare House, an Irish Pub style bar on the corner of Kildare and Wyandotte in the Olde Walkerville part of town (1880 Wyandotte St East). It's on the Crosstown 2 bus route for those of you who lack transport, plus it's on a major road so cab fair is usually reasonable.
The Kildare has a decent selection of pub style food and a good selection of imported beers including Killkenny, Guiness, Smithwicks, Caldonean and more. Prices aren't the best in town but reasonable (between $4 and $6 a pint). Non-alcoholic beverages are of course avaliable.
We will be on the SECOND FLOOR. Feel free to show up anytime from 8pm on. We should be there until close (2am) If you can think of a simple to teach group game, you don't mind playing on a bar table feel free to bring it!
I plan on bringing Bohnanza to this event as I received the game for Xmas and haven't had a chance to check it out.

Reservations have been made. We will definately be on the Second Floor. Facebook event created: www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=9974280735NightParade has graciously offered to bring Bang! for us to play, so so far we will have Bohnanza and Bang! I will probably have Pandora toss The Great Dalmuti in her purse as well. This is Shaping up to look like a fun night.

Just wanted to thank everyone who made it out. Seemed like everyone had a good time and it was great to see some new people out.
We fit in a couple games each of Bohnanza and Bang! both which were great games for so many players (7 and 8). Based on the fun we had I expect to bring Bohnanza as a P&P regular. We never even broke out Dalmuti.
I'll be looking for a day in March that would be good to have our next event. I think it will have to be near the end of the month as I know I have plans for at least two mid March Weekends.

Hey, Gilvan! I just saw a video on Puerto Rico at www.boardgameswithscott.com. Maybe we could play it sometime. The video is 35mins and explains alot. He says it is a bit overwhelming at first but as you go along the choices become easier. You learn better if you play the game. How good is this video and do you think I could learn it. Thanks.

It's not that hard to learn, definately easier then some games we have played like Shogun.
Peurto Rico is an amazing game, one of my favourites for sure. The problem is that it's not the kind of game I would bring somewhere like the Kildare. There are many small components (especially the colonists), plus the production value is rather high and I would hate to see a game that nice ruined by a spill. A card game like Bohnanza is cheaper and easy to replace compaired to on of the Alea 10 Big Box Games.
Back to planning, so so far we have one vote for anytime. Come on people, I know one day has to be better then the other. Perhaps I will set up a facebook event for the first date noting we may move it to the second. We always seem to get better feedback there then here, which is kind of sad.

Sorry for the miscommunication. I mean't at a gathering other than the Kildare House. I wouldn't expect you to bring an expensive game especially with all the drinks on the table and after the last gathering it is understandable. I posted it here because I didn't know a better place to put it and I wanted you to see it. So if there is ever a time you want to play it just let me know. Thanks.

Maybe. I much prefered getting together at Hugin and Munin.
The KofC has a few issues. The main one being that some of our members have received rather poor service (to the point of being distasteful). Another issues is the fact that everyone there is pressured to buy food and drink, as they give us the space for free. I know some people won't come out for that reason alone. Next is the fact that we are in the main restaraunt part of the place. It's not like we get a private room. We get 2-3 large tables in the back 'corner' but there are regular patrons there which can be a bit awkward. Along the smame lines, when we first started using the KofC the place never got that busy, but now Saturday night is $9 steak night and the place get's packed. Which always ends up with them not having enough tables and us (well at least me) feeling guilty that we are taking up so much room. The last problem happens when no one is there, they often decide to close early. Once as early as 9:00pm. The last problem kind of ties into the last, we used to start the KofC events at 2 - 4 O'clock, better for some people and necessary for the early close times. With the baby now, Pandora and I can't make it out that early anymore. We are limited to after 7:00pm now as thats when we can get a sitter.
I would consider going back, as it's a free venue in a public place with large tables, so good for meeting new and old members. If enough people are interested I can look into it again. It's been some time and I'm not even positive we would be welcome. Also we may have to figure out a good time to start. Perhaps Pandora and I could arrange something, even if I show up early and she joins us later.
What I'll do is start up a new thread in the poll section and see if people are interested. If we get enough (I'd say at least 6) people interested I'll stop in there and see if the place is still avaliable.

Okay as the 22nd was the only day anyone mentioned a preferance for (thanks for posting Isaac!), I will try to set things up for that date.
An email has been sent to The Kildare requesting reservations, once I get a reply on that I will go forward with promoting the event.
In regards to the KofC so far we have seen less then stellar participation in the poll, so I will hold off on that for now, and give it another look after the 22nd.
Attn Lurkers: if you are thinking of heading to these events or have chosen not to for some reason please log in or post as a guest and let us know your opinion. Would you rather we had them in a more family oriented place, would you rather skip the pints portion and make it alcohol free, would you rather play bigger more involved games, are you just worried we eat people at these events? Let us know. These events are arange so that people with similar interests can meet up and partake in their mutual hobbies. They are arrange for you guys, not anyone one person in particular.

would you rather skip the pints portion and make it alcohol free By all that is holy/scientific, please no. I pray to whatever god/science you believe in that I be allowed to have my beer.
