RPG - Breath of Fire Series, Final Fantasy I and II (dawn of souls I think they call it)
Time killers - Harvest Moon, Pokemon (hey its a great game!)
Strategy - Advance Wars, Fire Emblem.
Action - no clue - usually play rpg and strategy games. Heard Mari Cart is a blast but probably better 2 players or more.
FPS - game boy... hahaha yeah right. There is duke nukem.. but don't touch it.
Just some ideas.
We need to get everyone together again and rent Zelda 4 swords and hook us all up to the 'Cube.

I'm all into the zelda thing, although I'm about to throw my GBA out the window if I can't find where the good doctor left the spaceship he built for me in FF 1 Bard's taling my characters looking for it is getting a bit out of hand..

My brain is feeling a little rusty... spaceship in FF1?
If you're looking for the airship.... if you have the floater head out into the desert and use it, and the airship will appear.

Think you may mean PS1 as in Phantasy Star I. Did you talk to him 3 times and gotten the quest to find a pilot for the ship, and then done all the stuff you have to do to get Hapsby? If you have then you go to the bum on the west side of town (Gothic) and he will let you pass through to where your ship is.

PS1 yeah, that's it.. haven't slept enough recently (work not GBA) The bum? Damn.. I gave up talking to him ages ago... I actually got hapsby beFORE I got the ship.. Good thing I didn't get my passport taken away AGAIN, it was startingto get expensive trying to sneak into the closed spaceport I was even being good and not looking up the millions of cheats and walkthroughs on-line.. Ah well.. I need to map out the medusa castle before I go anywhere anyways...

2 Things.
1) we have accomplished what all forums do: stray way off topic.
2) I miss those old games, where you actually mapped out the dungeon as you explored it. If anyone knows anything else that has this feature that has been ported to GBA let me know. The top down dungeons are nice and quick, but there's something about mapping that I just used to love.

What are some Game Boy games I should check out? In my previous list I forgot The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. This game is supposed to be closest to the feel of the original Zelda while still making advances in gameplay and graphics. Won Best of E3 2004 for GBA, and is high on my want list. One you may like is the original 'Teft. GTA I and II are avaliable on GBA - yes they are top down and pretty old school but I remember having fun running people over in part I on the Playstation. Another that slipped my mind was Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories - an action RPG that uses a card based system for battles. The origingal Kingdom Hearts rocked (though I really didn't expect much from it) and this is suppsed to set up the next story while being a great game. The card system intrigues me but also gives me some concern. I would suggest a rental. Which is my next suggestion: rent a few games, see what you like. Always works for me.

I hate to admit it, but Pokemon games are a really great time/killer sort of fun... they're not much except weak storylines and a lot of bards taling.. but they are gret low brainpower games.. if youre pokemon are good enough you can literally fall asleep pressing the button while doing something else and get quite far

Ugh, we need a better quoting system on here. But anyways... Totally forgot about Pokemon. I guess that would be a good time waster. Heard about Fire Emblem, sounds good too. As far as FPS, no... there's no way in hell I'm playing a FPS on a Gameboy The gameboy might be the thing to help get me into rpgs though...

If you want to try RPGs I think we still may have Breath of Fire I (we may have sold it or given it to Ormia to borror, I can't remember), we have Breath of fire II but Pandora is currently playing it. I have Sword of Mana - a Square Enix game played alot like the old Zelda games (currently playing), and....
In TO I was able to pick up Zelda the Minish Cap for only $30. I have yet to plug this in (playing SoMana) but you are welcome to try it out sometime.
Also in TO I spotted somethign you may like, though I have never seen it for sale here (maybe eBay) TEKKEN GBA!!!

Have to try one or two before i make up my mind. GBA Tekken? Hmm, interesting, but I'd rather play it on a big screen, not sure it would translate that well.

A change in advice. Skip Sword of Mana. Its not horrible, and some people gave it great rattings but its just not that good.
Its pretty much a zelda clone with some cool leveling options and item creations as well as enchanced combat the the ability for a two person party.
This should make a good game... and it would... if I didn't get totally stuck twice now with no clear direction on what to do or where to go. I ended up picking up the hint book for $5 in Ottawa which has at least let me continue to play the game, but overall there are alot better rpg's and action games on the GBA.
