Quickly: This is the only magazine I currently subscribe to. 'nuff said.
Summary: this is a monthly gaming magazine and comic book that covers mainly pen and paper rpgs but also discusses computer games and board games from time to time. The magazine is half comic and half articles. The comic is based on pen and paper rpgs showing the heroics (read antics) of a few different rpg groups and thier world, from the perspective of watching them at the dinner table. The articles are mostly about Fantasy roleplaying but cover things like movies, comics, and board games. Regular articles include maps, npcs (the good, the bad, the ugly), a new monster for Hackmaster, a trap, and tons more.
The good: the comic itself is probably the funniest comic I have ever read. If you have ever sat down at a table and played a rpg you will love this comic. For many this has been their remaining tie to gaming after their groups have moved on (myself included for a few years there). The articles are well written and often have great stuff. Some atricles like Board Squak have lead me to play some amazing games. The reviews are honest and often correct.
The bad: This mag is put out by Kenzer and Company who make the Hackmaster RPG and a few other systems (Kingdom of Kalamark and soon Aces and Eights) and there products are featured pretty heavily. Though not like reading a White Dwarf, but there will be a good portion of the book more usefull to Hackmaster players.
The Ugly: There are some articles I just can't stand. These usually involve rants of some sort with some gamer that thinks he knows everything trying to prove it. If you are a big spelling and grammar freak this book will annoy you. They are getting better, but are still pretty lax in this area.
Overall: any gamer worth their salt, or any oldtime rpger should pick up at least one copy, or borrow one off a friend. There is not a better gaming rag on the market at this time.
