Finally got in a good game of this at the last Wednesday night boardgaming (for which there was no one there:()
Rating (going to try to remember do actually add one each time now) 7/10
Summary: quick card game in which players are dealt a random hand and need to play cards in order in one of 5 different coloured stacks. Playing an expedition card doubles the points for that stack (a second tripples, etc). The catch is that there are only 1 of each number 2-10 for each card and when you score if your total doesn't equal 20 you loose points instead of gain them. Have to say, this is hard to summarize quickly.
The Good: nice quick two player game that has a suprising amount of strategy and depth. Really the premise is pretty darn simple (ever played Rack-o, think of having 5 racks each a different colour), but the strategey involved will keep you thinking and cursing that one bad move. The fact your oponent can pick up your discards and the fact you have to play a card before drawing really make this game.
The Bad: The deck runs out too quick. Every game I have played I have been 'screwed' by the deck running out too quickly. Yeah I know it's part of the game, but man can it be frustrating when you run out of time to play those two 10's you've been holding onto. The board it pointless. Really, there is no reason this game needs a board, it would be just as easy to play on a blank table and start expeditions left to right.
The Ugly: here's a really silly one. This game comes in a very small box. This is good since it saves you money on packaging, but how the heck do you fit it on your bookshelf with all your other games? The math in this may scare some non-math inclined people.
Summary: one of the best two player games I have played. Not my favourite but definatley the one that takes the least time, including setup and gameplay. The one thing I love in a game exists here, simple rules with complex strategy.
