Quickly: Fun backstabing game that is better with more players.
Summary: All the awesome hacking, slashing and backstabing of a dungeon crawl without all that silly roleplaying stuff. You are a character exploring a dungeon. Each turn you open a door to a room, if there is a monster there you fight it, if there is a trap you spring it, if neither you get a card for your hand. You beat a monster you gain treasure and level up. The first one to lvl 10 wins. That's basically it, with a few odd little twists. This is a card based game that takes nothing seriously.
The Good: a ton of fun with a few players. I will have to admit the first time I played this I wasn't that big a fan. But then a couple weeks ago we had 4 and 5 of us playing it and had a ball. The cards are great, with hilarious art by John Kovalic (Dork Tower) and the mobs and items are roll on the floor funny. The game is quick and easy once you get the basic flow. The expansions are great too, each adding something new and more fun to the game.
The Bad: It's a card based game and eventually you have seen every card. It's hillarious the first time you kill a Gazeebo, it's still funny a few times later, but it's no longer hillarious to draw that card. It seems like some games can have a steamroller aspect, where once one player starts winning they continue to steamroll over the oponents (though another game had power switch constantly). All of the sets are supposed to combine to make one giant game. This works better in theory then in practice.
The Ugly: this game is all about working together at the beginning of the game then backstabbing the heck out of the people who helped you later. This may not go over well in some groups and people can start to take things personally. If you are the type of group that enjoys this type of thing (Gorechyld's group comes to mind) you will love it.
Overall: a fun game and great diversion. Perfect for the game before the game or a whole night of 'dungeon crawling'. Pick up the expansions too, they are well worth it. More fun with more players. Does not really work with 2 and isn't so hot with 3.
