Okay I already gave a review of the game itself while it was in Beta. The only comment I have regarding that is that it has gotten way better since then. They have really filled the world with ruins and other scenery, populated the place with innumerable gangs and native wildlife, added a ton more quests, more items etc. It's just like the beta, but everything works (so far) and there is so much more to do and see.
What I thought would be useful if I tossed up a Review of the Limited edition. This will give people considering picking up this excellent MMO a good idea what they may want to pay a bit more for.
Summary: this is the limited edition version of the new MMOrpg Auto Assault. It a deluxe boxed set that comes with a few bonus items in game and out. Out of game bonus items include a headset mic combo and a game Soundtrack. You also get the DVD edition of the game and not the CD version. In game items include a RC car item that you can activate any time and follows you around. It also includes 1 of each starter (3) for the Auto Assault online CCG.
The good: The price is very reasonable for what you get. Especially if you are like me and have been considering picking up a mic and headset anyway. The limited was only $15 more then the non from EBgames and Best Buy in the states had it only $5 more (at least that's what it said online). The music CD is actually rather good. It's a funky high tech sounding Techno, industrial mix, that really reminds me of an Anime soundtrack (something like Ghost in the Shell). The headset is a really nice set from Creative. I wasn't expecting such a name brand. The sound is great and the 'on cord' mic and volume control is nice. The 3 starters is rather cool too. I have had a chance to beta test the TCG and it's a good game. Getting into it for 'free' is a nice addition. Also included was 15 free days for all of NCSofts other games including City of Heroes, City of Villains, Guild Wars, Tabula Rassa. This may come with the non-limited, but I'm not sure.
The Bad: The in game RC car is cool, but really, who cares, just a show off item. The music CD doesn't come with a case or a sleeve or anything. It's stuck on some silly piece of plastic that makes it look good in packaging. The game CD also only comes in a Slip Case. I personally prefer jewel cases.
The Ugly: There have been some issues with people abusing their RC cars. They were set up to have no impact on gameplay (aka no weapons and they are invincible), but the developers put them in the collision engine giving them a 'presence'. People have been abusing this by using their cars to push other players around in the cities and cause cars to flip out on the roads. I am sure this will only be temporary as people 'play' with it. There is also a chance the developer will remove the presence.
Overall: if you are considering picking up the game and need a headset/mic there is no reason you shouldn't pick this up. The headset included is worth more then the $15 extra and you get cool in game stuff and a CD to go with it. If you already own a headset, then I still think it could be worth it. You are getting starters for a second game (and enough cards to actually build a deck since they give you 3), and a pretty good CD.
