Picked this up a couple days ago after driving all over town trying to find a copy.
Quickly: much better two player, some cool new features, basically the same game with new songs.
Summary: the Sequel to one of this years early supprise Playstation Hits. A rythm game in which you play a guitar shapped controlled in time with various Rock classics, new and old. Part two adds a practice mode, more difficulty, better multiplayer and more unlockables.
The Good: the new bits are rather cool. I was very happy when I got my first encore scene. The tracks included are still nice and heavy with guitaring. Like the last one I am often supprised by the depth of the guitar in songs I never noticed it in before. The two player game modes are greatly improved over the first edition. The co-op mode being the most fun thus far. Each player plays a different track and together you score the song. One player would play Bass while the other Lead Guitar and so on. The amount of unlockables is way higher then the last game which is always fun. You can buy it with or without the guitar. Always a good thing for people who don't expect to be doing much multiplayer.
The Bad: I'm just not enjoying the playlist as much this time. I know reading through it I was looking forward to the new tunes but actually playing it I'm finding that I am only enjoying like one track per dificulty level. I don't remember having this issue with the first one (perhaps I just got used to the soundtrack and don't remember this moment with the last one). The increased difficulty may be a bit too much. Even going through the Easy mode there were some songs at the end that would have been ranked as Medium in the last edition. This seems to have been done to compensate for being able to practice. I still want to see a rithm game where I can import my own music.
The Ugly: I don't understand why they had to just do a red guitar. The game with guitar would have been much more appealing if the guitar was a different Gibson model, instead of a repaint (well technically different coloured plastic) of the original. There is a wireless GH guitar on the market now as well, this would have been great to see with the game.
Overall: if you liked the first one you will like this one. You won't love it, it won't be the next best thing, but it's got some stuff here that's improved over the first. The gameplay is identical, the music is more diverse and the multiplayer is much improved.
