As my last post got deleted somehow, this will be the short version.
Quickly: very cool and dark for a Zelda game, doesn't use the Wii to any potential. Frustrating platforming.
Summary: the first next gen. Zelda Game. You play link. Evil Twilight is taking over the land. You are the chosen hero, must save the world. When brought to Twilight you get turned into a wolf and go to this odd demon Tron like world (reminds me of ./Hack when the Virus was spreading in The World). A odd small Demon offers to guide and help you but only if you obey it's every command. You battle between the light and dark both as link or as a demon wolf. You much dispel the twilight by helping the Guardians of Light.
The Good: the best looking Zelda game to date. The twilight realm looks really cool. Real time lighting effects combined with a ton of glow effects give the Twilight a cool Tron like look. Very cool dark story. Thus far this is the darkest Zelda game. It would probably give small kids nightmares. Intersting combination of the normal Link and the Wolf. Each controlls differently and has different abilities. The wolf's sense ability is rather cool, and it's fun digging stuff up from the ground. I love the voice for the little demon dude/chick that follows you around. It plays very similar to the last two Zelda games with z targeting and all that, which is not what I expected. This gives the game a very familiar feel. The characters in this game are top notch. From the cute village girl that loves your horse to the bizar voodoo kid out in the woods.
The Bad: the platforming. I'm not even that far into the game and there is already a lot of platforming. Some of which is the type where if you miss the jump you die and game over (aka the worst kind). Combat is a bit difficult as you do a lot of jumping around and it's hard to tell which way is up (this could be due to the controlls, see The Ugly). No voices. This follows the usual Nintendo trend of that annoying 'typing' sound along with a grunt or quick sound from everyone right when you first start talking to them. It clicked in the other day why they do this (no localization required) which is great, but I'm getting used to full voices in my modern games.
The Ugly: The Wii has a very cool and very intersting controller that opens up so many possibilites. Zelda unfortunatley has no clue what those are. The ever cool Wiimote become a giant button you swing around. To swing your sword you flick the remote. That's it, it doesn't matter which way, what direction or even how far or fast. Just move it quickly. You want to do a side slash? You would think you would swing the 'mote to the side. Well that works for a side slash, but so does stabbint with it, chopping with it, or merely bumping it off your leg. You want a horizontal slash, you would think you would do an overarm chop motion. No that doesn't work, that does a horizontal slash as just noted. You want a vertical slash you have to hold Z and move the 'mote. Again move it any way you want. You want a jumping slash? Even dumber, hold Z and hit A, you don't even have to move the 'mote. On the package it makes a big deal over using the nunchuck for your shield. Yeah, you hit the Z button on it to block. That's it. If you shake the 'chuck you do a spinning slash though! Oooo! How dumb. And from Nintendo themselves. You would figure they would know better. This was obvioulsy done so they could put the game out for the 'cube as well, but how annoying. You can use the 'mote to aim your slingshot and look around in first person mode, this is the only way it actually has any useful purpose. You can't even use it to move the camera as you would expect FPS style (based on other already released games).
Overall: I'm both impressed and disapointed at once. The game is pretty cool. The graphics are very nice and very intersting. The story is great. The gameplay is good, and typical of Zelda (even if I'm not a big platform fan, it's part of the series now). The whole wolf thing is just neat. Except for better graphics though there is no reason for this to be on the Wii. I actually think it would probably control way better on the Gamecube with a normal controller. This is the WORST aplication of the Wii Remote controller that I have seen to date. Even worse, the game is perfect for using the Wiimote to it's fullest. Let me swing my 'mote how I want to swing my sword!
Can I suggest it? I definately suggest it for the gamecube, even without trying it, as it's the coolest Zelda yet, and you won't even have to put up with the stupid controlls. For the Wii, I may or may not pick this up myself, the Jury is out. If I have one more death due to not shaking my 'mote at the right time, or trying to use a stabing motion instead of just flicking it, I doubt it will. I strongly suggest a rent before a buy in this case.
