Quickly: the system in my house that now gets the most use.
Summary: the latest incarnation of the portable Nintendo Gameboy. The DS Lite is a remake of the DS. As it's name implies it's much much lighter in two ways. The screen is at least twice as bright and the system is about half as big. The Lite also has a few other improvements over the standard DS. Stereo Speakers, a headphone jack, improved wireless connectivity and even a newer chip set (required by some newer games coded as DS Lite only).
The Good: I love this system so far. The Touch screen is a great edition to my gaming world. The uses for it I have seen have all been excellent, sometimes working as a mouse in a PC games, other times as a joystick in a FPS and others as a pencil for writing. The responsiveness is excellent. The dual screens is a cool touch that is also used well by the wide variety of games. Speaking of games there is a ton of support for this system. Nintendo and Third Party Supporters are putting more out for this system then I have seen for the Gamecube and Wii combined. Full 3d Graphics are finally supported on a handheld though few games support it. The built in batteries seem to last a really long time especially on the lower brightness settings.
The Bad: The whole system is a bit too small. The buttons are a bit too close together and hard for adult hands to press without hitting other buttons. It's not horrible, but it does take some getting used to and some thumb repositioning from what you may be used to.
The Ugly: The graphics on the DS Lite are better then all previous Gameboys but they still aren't as good as any of the normal consoles. The sound is also improved, but still not that great. Some games have even added voice acting, but it reminds me of the Amiga days more then anything modern.
Overall: I am loving this system. I tend to bring it with me everywhere. I haven't done that with a system since the original black and white gameboy. I play it while watching TV or while my Wife plays a console on our TV. I play it while waiting in line, while waiting for food at a restaurant, etc. A great handheld system with great support from Nintendo and Third Party Developers. Anyone should be able to find many games they love on this one.
