Iggwilv is HOT!!! Ok... enough of that, lets get a recap of the battle shall we? After bumbling about for a while the characters finally listenend to Sunstone and checked where he was telling them and found the super secret door! (more or less) Yes... the giant battle was nasty and yes it was long and yes it was terrible; but in no way was sunstone going to let that filth continue to pollute the wrld with his foul magicks. As was said earlier Sunstone was the target of Vaynes most potent and terrible spells. Obviously since I am the most powerful member of the party and Pelors shining servant on this sphere of existance, I would attract his ire. This whole "laying me low in one round" stuff was pretty far fetched. I like to think that I forced Vayne to use his potent spells on me, someone that could take the beating and save my teammates from certain death. SURE I might have been reduced to negative 40+ hit points but whos counting!?!?! I knew that pelor would intercede and bring me aid from one of my companions and I was not worried. The next round saw me up on my feet and at full hitpoints and ready to deal death to the heretics. Although next time I decide to run in to cast a spell I should make sure I dont HAVE to run in and just cast it from where I am at anyways... the 3 demons spell resistances coupled with their reach and grappling weapons were a horribnle nuisance. Added to it all of vaynes buffing spells and mirror images and generale trickery it was a tough fight. looking back I wished I would of had other spells on hand that would have been better suited but oh well. The teleporting all over was really annoying and I still dont understand what was going on. Thankfully we triumphed and destroyed the evil mage... just when we thought it was ok to breathe a sigh of relief... a huge evil demigod shows up. Thats when you know it is going to be a bad day. Thankfully he was mostly there to exact his displeasure upon Vayne and deal Civ a wicked hit that reduced her from full HP to just 1!!! Then things went glub and nasty tenteclely-like thingies sprouted from the floor to drag the demigod back to whatever fould pit he came from. ANd lucky for him I say! For I am sure in my righteous might I would have banished him from this world in a most unpleasent and permanent way. We will meet again hellspawn!!! and next time you wont be so lucky!

Still waiting for the write up from last session And... get better soon! I need to share with everyone the "correct" series of events according to Pelors Mightiest Priest, which usually means contrary to what actually happened.

Wow I totally missed that I didn't update this. It's been over a month. Not sure how good my memory is. The party started the night debating what to do. I have to admit I can't remember if they finished off exploring the dungeon level they were on or went back to town right away. I know we had part of a floor to finish off before the next chapter. I think they went back to town first. The trip to town was interesting to say the least. The mages of Greyhawk acting under direction of the Guild of Mages (with Mordenkainen at the lead) were preparing a ritual to put a magical shield around the city. The 'bubble' had already been formed and was now being reinforced. Testing it's strength the party realized that soon they would be cut off from town as The Ruins of Castle Greyhawk are a few hours journey from town and would be outside the bubble. Getting into town the party found the city swamped with people. Refugees from all over the Flaneses have been flooding the city proper. An entire shanty town had sprung up outside the city walls and space inside the walls was over filled. The party heard reports that the Foreign quarter was in a state of civil war with the rest of the city with The Pomajer declaring himself ruler (Gelna's boyfriend for those of you who have been following along). Deciding to stop in at the Green Dragon, the characters got a Heroes welcome. Ricard Demarais took the opportunity to use the parties fame to drive some sales and had them all telling stories long into the night enjoying excellent food and plenty of drinks. The next morning the party attempted to visit Mordenkainen and tell him of their battle with Iuz. The archmage was busy though and the party found they had an afternoon to waste. This was spent buying and selling. The party faced some sticker shock though as many of the towns merchants were profiteering pretty badly. Common items were up to at least double price. Eventually the party got in to see the Arch Mage. After the usual 'debate and berate' from the Wizard they ended up leaving the mage Vaynes Journal and were asked to return the next day. During their initial visit they found out just how bad the War, or rather route from the Yuan Ti was going. The Snake man army was massive and there have been confirmed reports of the army being lead by the demon lord Sertrous himself. This god has proven to be unbeatable by any mortal means thus far and his power seems to have grown significantly since the part first faced him (way back at level 6 or so). At this point the Yuan-Ti army had just taken over the Orc peninsula of the Pommarj. and were set for a near clear path North to Greyhawk. A bit more shopping, a stop off at their home and the party returned to Mordenkanen. The mage explained to the party what was in the Journal. This took a couple of tries It seems that Vayne had a plan to overflow Iuz himself. Years ago he found a hair in a comb belonging to Iuz's mother Iglwylv. He recently was able to use the hair to create a Simulacrum of Iggy without Iuz finding out. He used the Simulacrum to gain access to the Tower of Zagyg (Iggy and Zaggy were a couple at one time, Gygax was nuts). From there Vayne was working on a plot that would use Iuz's own GodTrap to capture the Old one. It actually looked like a pretty good plan, until the PC's got involved and killed Vayne. The problem with killing Vayne is that it freed the Simulacrum. So now a Silmulacrum of the most powerful, and evil sorceress to ever live is wandering around the Tower of Zagyg. Mordenkanen guessed that she had something to do with what the party witnessed in the Chamber of Calling. He proposed that the simulacrum is probably doing something to regain the full memory and power of the real Iggy, which would be "a very bad thing". So the party returns to the Ruins of Castle Greyhawk this time to stop a copy of the mother of the one they thought was a real threat to Greyhawk, who in fact is nothing compared to the possibility of a real version of the Demon Witch returning to the world. Oh and there's still that matter of a Yuan Ti army taking over half of the world. Given a scroll of gaseous form ("you will know when you need to use it") and an object that will let the party 'home portal' Diablo style (remember the bubble they can't pass now), the party returned to the Ruins. The rest of the session was spent clearing out the rest of the Chamber of Calling level. A bit of exploration, debate over what furniture to steal for their homes, a brief encounter with a Beholder (the party basically ran away) and a fight with a Hobgoblin Cleric of Iuz and the party found a way to The Tower of Zagyg using that scroll of gaseous form. Next session the party will find themselves exploring Zagyg's Promenade - a floor that has taken me far too much Gaming Paper (www.gamingpaper.com) to draw.

I think we went back to town first cause didnt Civ level up? Im pretty sure. I am sure there are still some places that we havent explored, at this point I am sure we are pretty much not so inquisitive anymore and are under a time contraint since we have to deal with ANOTHER army invading! geesh... its tough being a hero sometimes. yeah we really didnt accomplish all that much as far as adventureing went last session, it was pretty much tieing all the loose ends together and formulating a plan to deal with these 2 major threats: the similacrum and the army. I think we should somehow get them both 2 fight amongst themselves and then we can mop up the leftovers. or I could turn on the charm and woo the similacrum with my dashing good looks and my rapier like whit an then life would be much easier. if that dosent work then we can always fight her I have to admit that my mouth was watering a bit when I saw the map for zagygs promenade. I can only imagine the horrible traps that await our blundering footseps weeeeee!!!!!

well... as if in answer to my prayers our blundering footsteps lead us into a nearly full party wipe first thing last session. After turning into gaseous form and flying through a tunnel and being spewed out into the front entranceway we all (save gelna) floated into the room since we were still in gas form and promptly triggered a whirlwind trap that flung our assorted gassy particles all over the place and killed us. After we solidified the place looked like it had been liberally painted with chuncky salsa I am sure. Gelna having just floated up instead of into the room collected what she could in the "Greyhawk approved" zip-lock bag and went back to town for some ressurection action. After having waited about a month to play again and dieing pretty much within the forst 30 seconds I was ready to fluch my character down the toilet and head home. what a bummer! But... I stayed and we continued. I swear D&D characters must be them most paranoid people ever! I dont think I would ever leave the house with so much death looming around every corner. At this point I will turn it over to the DM to finish the tale... suffice it to say it involves a robot, some lovely red hats and allot of healing spells

So after the ridiculous save or die trap that killed all but one party member (glossed over as I thought it was a bit ridiculous, I didn't force anyone to loose levels or anything) they party started to explore Zagyg's Promenade.
The first few rooms were simple enough and allowed Olaroso to get a nice massage while scaring the rest of the party pretty badly. After the message and welcome greeting the party crossed over the promenade itself, a 20 foot wide, 15 foot deep corridor that appeared to take up much of the dungeon level. It looked like a parade route with balconies and seating on the sides and a wide stage off in a corner. The party passed by this going over one of the many palisade crossing the promenade, even though they heard odd scraping and booming noises coming from down the promenade.
On the other side the party found some dungeon back rooms. After a tiny bit of exploring they found a redcap nest. Here they met one of the twisted fey. After talking to the small old man with the bloody cap, who was rather pissed at the invaders to his home, the party decided he was most definitely evil and needed to be killed. Well rather Sunstone decided and everyone else went for it. Olaroso helped this decision with an amazing Arcana check that let the party know pretty much everything there is to know about Redcaps (guess small fey men are something the Elf is into).
The fight with the Fey was pretty quick and bloody. Civ used some new fangled teleport spell (this was a theme of the night) to get in the room behind the Red Cap and Olaroso blocked the door. Gelna guarded the back but didn't do much besides see another of the creature run by and jump down into the Promenade. After a pretty quick fight the party searched the area and managed to find a secret door in a rather ingenious way (the search check they never would have made but they dumped the Red Caps cauldron of blood right towards the door on the map, so I decided they would notice that the blood wasn't pooling in that area).
The secret passage was the obvious choice for which way to go next. It seemed to lead to the back, serrvents passage for all of the deluxe box seating for the promenade. Coming out at one of the boxes with two seats the party finally saw what was making all the noise in the Promenade. It was a huge Spider Like Juggernaut Golem with a round bowl like control room up top with 3 Redcaps playing with the levers. Unfortunately Erebos didn't show for the session or I would have had a nice Huge Crab Droid mini for this fight. Sadly we had to go with some Drider thing. It didn't look that cool but man it was a great fight.
The Juggernaut proved to be just about a perfect challenge for the party. Civ and Sunstone blasted it with spells which barely managed to touch it and Gelna charged forward. Just then the thing cast a Wall of Force and effectively separated the Barbarian from the rest of the group. While everyone else manoeuvred to get back into the fight the hulking Mech managed to grab Gelna, toss her to the promenade floor and grind over her a couple of times. (Note the party was fighting from the pallisades, 15 feet above the promenade, which the thing was using grasping arms to reach up and grab them). As Gelna went down Civ began teleporting (as I said theme of the night) the rest of the party through. First Sunstone was sent into the fray as Olaroso ran back the way the party came to come at the creatures from the back. Next as the beast continued to pummel Gelna and Sunstone, Civ teleported into the bowl with the Fey. Olaroso joined her there with a quick fly spell and the two Elves engaged the Red-Caps.
As the fight went on Sunstone got to go through what Gelna did, getting grabbed tossed to the floor and walked on. Unfortunately for the Dwarf he wasn't nearly as hardy as the parties Barbarian and he got to go visit Pelor again (a continuing theme of the campaign it seems, it's not a good session if Sunstone doesn't visit Pelor at least once). Olaroso managed to save him with a Revivify. At this point Gelna had enlarged and was taking on the Juggernaut and a Red Cap on the ground (who hopped out of the bowl on top as soon as there were only 2 red caps up there... they hate even numbers). Civ continued to fight up in the Bowl.
The fight went on for about another 4 rounds, with the Juggernaut pummelling the players. Sunstone was down, Gelna had less then 10 hit points and Civ was getting pounded up in the bowl. Olaroso had swapped tactics and was now attacking the controls the Red Caps had been using and Gelna was just pounding the thing with Norebo's Hand. Eventually it went down before any more party members.
It was a pretty sweet fight that played out really well. Credit goes to whoever wrote and balanced this one. This was definitely one of the best fights in the module. It was a rather long one though and did take up the rest of the session. Here's hoping the rest of Zagyg's Promenade is as much fun.

Yeah the battle with the juggernaught was pretty sweet. I think it came down to doing 2 points of damage on our turn or it would have rolled over gelna and/or sunstone again both of which were in single digits for hitpoints. I think we should somehow teleport that big construct back to the city and melt it down and make sunstone some fancy new adamantine armor I could use the Damage Reduction... The redcaps were little more than annoying but still a funny addition to the battle. I would imagine there would be more juicy magical treasure seeings how its zagygs ballroom and all... I think we should do some serious searching after battles so we dont miss anything. That means You elves! Between Gelna and myself our combined search scores make us about as usefull as 2 blind people groping around with big furry mittens! and im being generous in that assessment. I might actually go back to that couch and get a massage after being crunched by that jugger. I can only imagine I would be sore pretty much everywhere

Finally got to play again last Saturday. Only had 3 players so it made things rather interesting for the players. Looks like we may only have 3 for a while so it could be a tough finish.
We started off with the players exploring more of Zagig's Promenade. A statue was found and given a wide berth and much discussion which ammounted to a whole lot of nothing. Personally if I found a statue of the goddess of fate holding a string of fate, I would have to pull it. Guess I'm not an adventurer.
From here the party explored some more before coming upon a tierd hall. In it were two Aumvoraxes (sp?) that the party had been looking for since they first got to town (when they were invited to Lord Hemingway's Menagerie). Standing over his pets was an ancient hero of Greyhawk. The cities most famous Gladiator and founder of the Free People's Gladitorial Arena the largest in all of Faerun. Sadly the character's had never heard of him. They even forgot the 10,000 Gold bounty on his head if they brought him back alive. Oh well...
Talk about a tough fight. This guy knew his stuff. Between gaining higher ground, flanking with his pets and using them to pin down Gelna it was a long and bitter battle. We should have kept track but we think Gelna took something like 500 points of damage in the battle. She did the majority of the fighting, Civ used her magic to weaken and then take one of the Golden Woverine's out of the fight. Sunstone was a healing machine. Many time Gelna was taken below 0 in natural HP, it was only her Rage that Sustained her. Even with the rage she was down to about 2 HP at one point. About half way through the fight the party gave up on keeping the Aurumvorx alive, figuring the gold reward just wasn't worth potentially dying for.
This fight was so intense and long that it took up most of the night. In the end the party won out but was severly depleted in resources. It was time for a long nap. The group set them selves up in the Gladiator's room and got some well deserved sleep. I wonder if they dreamt about how much gold in rewards they just lost?

The 5 have become 3 And the fates shall decree What will be come the thee and me The end... shrouded in mystery
Screw the 10GP's Im just worring on surviving the next room. The way I see it, everything there is poised to destroy us. Every room can be potentially deadly. Besides.. how the hell are we going to squeeze him, and us, out again through that little whole in the wall? And what are we going to do. Tie him up and com eback to get him? Im sure the King of Gladiators can bust free or work his way out of whatever we use to bind him. And the thought of coming upon him again in a worse state than we were already in the first time (and this time he would be totally pisssed off at us) does not sit well with me.
Now more than ever we have to keep our wits about us and be conscious of our surroundings and things we do. The hits will not be spread out as much as they used to be so more damage being delt to less people will suck. I gotta remember to create a spiritual link with Gelna and Civ so I can heal them without touching them ( hint hint... remind me!)
I am also a realist and I dont believe we will survive (or at least all of us survive) the final confrontation with whatever nasty God, Demon, Simulacrum or any of the other diabolical denizens of other planes that I am sure await us. I, for one have made peace with Pelor and know there is a brighter, more wonderful place awaiting me on the other side. I know this because I have been sent there on numerous occasions in this adventure thus far. I actually had a chance last time to out a downpayment on a nice Condo that overlooks the Ocean of Tranquillity near the mountains of Magnificence. Its close to some good shopping and fine restaurants. Every friday night the shops stay open late and the streets are closed of to the normal horse and buggy traffic and you can walk around in and out of the shops. They also have a great soft ball league (Pelor's Patriots) with bi-weekly tournaments against the "non-lawful" leagues.
So.. shoudl either Gelna or Civ wish to convert I can put a good word in for you with the condo associaton. Its something to think about.
