Okay by now most people have already played this one and finished it. Myself I am still working through it.
As most people know the game, and the fact that doing a summary would give away the plot for those who don't I won't follow my usual review format.
The hype on this one is well deserved. This is the second best single player FPS I have ever played. Half Life 2 being the first. In some ways this actually outshines Half Life, especially in the gameplay lenght and replayability factor of being able to customize your character. For some reason though I just had more fun with Half Life 2. It's extremely responsive, the story is totally enthralling, and it really gets you into the mood and creeps you out. They way the AI and levels are designed there is no right way to take out a mob, and with the variety of options you have as a character it's just fun to try various things out.
The creeping out is the one thing I do have to knock on the game. It's definately not for everyone. After the plastic surgeon level near the begining of the game my wife forbade me to play it with her around. (Which is one of the reasons I am still working on this one). I had no clue this was a Horror game until I got half an hour into it. It wasn't evident from the demo at all. I personally don't mind it but I now know of at least two people who have no interest in loosing sleep due to this game.
So overall if you can stand a little creepy, mentally disturbing and bloody horror in your games, you will love this game. It takes twisted to a new level but also takes FPS gameplay to a new level with the variety of character customizations you can 'install' and the variety of attack forms you have, and that's not counting the rather cool Weapon selection.
If you've already finished the Orange Box I suggest this next. (Actually if you have this and are looking for something else, try out The Orange Box if you haven't already).
