For the unitiated Wargames Market is a eBay alternative that speciallizes in Miniatures and Wargaming. They have recently added board games and card games as well.
Here's their press release:
"We are contacting all our members to tell them about a fantastic development. It is now free to list on Wargames Market!
So how do we intend to pay the bills? Well if you list an item over $300 starting price a $2 fee will apply, which is still nearly 50% lower than ebay. We also offer premium listing features and we hope people will still support us by using these features at times.
Other than that, there are no listing fees or buy-it-now fees to pay. Relists are still free as well.
We have added a new feature called 'swap deal' which means you can list a free item and get bids, or take swap offers. You can also negotiate using our secure internal messaging system. You can now barter items for free but with all the benefits of our auction site features included - you cannot lose.
We have also re-structured our store fees. Instead of a monthly fee, from you next renewal it will be a quarterly (90 day) fee and will be around 30% lower than the old monthly rate combined - again a massive saving we hope will encourage people to dip their toe in the water.
With the recent addition of google checkout as a payment processor, people are in a unique position to drop ebay and paypal and maximise their profit margins. For buyers, supporting sellers moving to Wargames Market will mean lower prices for everyone (we estimate up to 15% lower in some cases from liason with current sellers). If you see an item on ebay you like, ask if they will list it on Wargames Market with a 5-10% discount - they will still increase their margin while you as a buyer will get a discount!
These are difficult economic times and we believe that The Wargames Market is in a unique position to give buyers and sellers more than the bigger competitors can offer at basically zero outlay. We also believe that our systems will give people bartering/swapping a safer and better policed environment than has perhaps been previously available to the gaming community.
Please forward this email onto anyone who you think would be interested.
Best Regards
The WM Team"
