This is an open invite to all Windsor and surrounding area gamers! The Windsor Gaming Resource will be hosting an afternoon of gaming on January 31st at the Walker Road Knights of Columbus, in Windsor Ontario, from Noon until 6:00PM. This will be our second Games and Grub event. Our last event had approx 15 participants and we played some great games including Shadows Over Camelot, El Grande, Settlers of Catan, Hacienda and Bohnanza. We have reserved two large tables that should fit up to three reasonably sized boardgames each, or one massive one like The World of Warcraft Boardgame. A third table will be avaliable if we need it. The Knights of Columbus will be open to the public at the time, but this has never been a problem in the past and we have held multiple events at this venue. The KofC has a good sized offering of food, all items except two which are under $8 (the two are a combo appetizer platter and a huge plate of Nachos). Most items are home cooked comfort food style items. Beverages are of course also available and we usually stick to $5 Pitchers of Pop. The special the day of the event will be Swedish Meatballs w/ Mashed Potatoes for $6.95. As the Council is not charging us to host this event I encourage everyone to support the venue by purchasing some food and/or drink. The KofC is is located at 1711 Walker Road between Tecumseh and Seminole. At these events we usually play boardgames, but we have also had people there playing Star Wars Minis and various CCGs. I personally will be bringing Settlers of Catan as well as some other good multiplayer games (I'm thinking Shadows Over Camelot, Race for the Galaxy and Pandemic, but I'm not positive yet). I am more then willing to teach any game I bring. I also encourage others to bring games they would like to share with their fellow gamers. Looking forward to some great gaming at the end of January. A disclaimer: The WGR has no ties or affiliation with the Knights of Columbus or what they represent, it's just a good venue, that is open to the public, to play some games at that also happens to be free.

Well after doing a bit of research and finding out that Formula D is a game for up to 10 players, I decided to spend a Xmas gift certificate on picking up the game. The game sounds great and easy to learn and allowing for 10 players I thought would be perfect for out next Games and Grub.
For those that don't know Formula D is a racing game that features both Street and Forumla 1 racing styles. It's a recently released update to the classic game Forumla De which only featured Formula 1 racing. It uses a very unique system. Each player starts each round deciding which gear they are in from 1-6. You can only gear up one gear a turn but can gear down up to three gears (which can cause potential damage to your car). The interesting bit is that each gear is associated with a die, from D4 to D30. These aren't normal dice though, as each has a range, for example the D30 ranges from 24 to 30. The number rolled is how many spaces you move. This combined with a system that requires you to 'stop' so many times in each turn, with the number of stops changing depending on the angle of the turn, makes for a pretty simple yet strategically complex system.
All sounds pretty good eh? Here's the problem, 4 of the 10 player components (a Dashboard with gearbox and character card) were cut backwards. Making them totally useless.
I've since written the publisher, Asmodee Editions, but haven't gotten a responce back.
At this point I'm not sure if I will or will not be bringing the game. I probably will as it's still playable 6 player, but I was really hoping for something everyone could get into at once.

Here's the problem, 4 of the 10 player components (a Dashboard with gearbox and character card) were cut backwards. Making them totally useless. Could you scan them into your computer, flip them, then print them onto cardstock? Or have vital components been punched out and away?

Vital components have been punched out unfortunately. I could just copy the information onto paper or something, as in reality the gear box and character cards are really just for looks and ease of play. The old edition of the game basically used character sheets where you would keep track of things on paper, so I guess I could mock something up to use for the one day. What I would really like is a responce from the company letting me know how to get replacements. I personally think finding such a defect in a game that costs $70 is near unacceptable, not responding to a valid email asking for resulution of such a problem is definately unacceptable. I am not at all impressed with Asmodee thus far.

Can't make it Due to running Magic Pre-Release Event.
RE: Formula D
If you don't get a response by Tuesday let me know and I'll work on it from my end.

I'd like to try El Grande, Race for the Galaxy and Formula D. Always up for Settlers too.
I'll bring the rest of my games to sell, and some PC strategy games too:
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth Sid Meier's Pirates! Civilization IV Rome: Total War Galactic Civilizations Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords Silent Hunter III Dreamfall: The Longest Journey Freedom Force vs. The 3rd Reich Space Rangers Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators
I'll sell them together (11 games) for the price I bought just Civ IV for

Still in town, Monty? Hey, watch out with selling GalCiv2 and its expansion: if you ever registered it online, the new owner will not be able to register without paying for an additional copy of the game; that means no updates, no participating in the online "metaverse", etc (see item 3 here: forums.galciv2.com/122873 ) It is, however, an excellent game and highly recommended. Quite like Space Rangers, too.

Well that's nice. I'm not sure if I registered. Maybe did. I played it, Rome, Pirates and Silent Hunter a bit. The others I never even played, I just booted them up to make sure they installed correctly.

What you should be able to do is find out your username and password and give it to whoever purchases the game from you. And you can always change the password and the email it's associated with beforehand, though I've never had to do it before with that game. Should be easy, I think.

Not sure if we will have time for all those. None of them are quick games. I will probably bring them all just in case. I'm considering not playing Race for the Galaxy just because the game is a bitch to explain and teach.
I haven't bothered to mock anything up for Formla D either, so that may just be a six player game that day. My weekly D&D game is tomorrow so I doubt I will have a chance to do up some temporary dashboards. There is a small chance I will get my replacement parts before Saturday, I'm hoping on that happening. Oh, and yeah, Asmodee did eventually write me and they said that everyone was on Vacation all that week and that they didn't get my emails until they got back. Now personally I tend to use that "Turn On Out of Office" option on my email programs when I'm out for a week at a time, but I'm not a French Game Publisher.

A couple days late, but I wanted to thank everyone who attended. I think this last event was another great sucess.
We only had 9 people out which is pretty good due to the fact there was a Magic The Gathering Pre-Release event being held the same day and the fact the weather was pretty crappy.
We were able to get in a rather fun game of Formula D with 9 players. After that we played a couple rounds of Bang! (thanks to Nightparade for bringing it) and we finished off the event with a round of Bohnanza using the High Bohn Plus expansion.
I think a good time was had by all.
So what weekend is good for people in February or perhaps early March?

Yeah, it was fun, and I managed to get home without my car blowing up, so maybe the curse is off. Then again, my hot water heater sprung a leak this morning and there's water running under the house, so maybe the bad juju from Pazuzu is just getting creative.
The weekend of Feb. 21 is good for me so far, if I live that long.

Heading to the KofC today to see if I can book the 21st. Assuming there is no problem on their end I will put up an event thread. I send out emails, make a facebook event etc. tomorrow or Sunday.
EDIT: Glad to see we broke the curse Isaac.
