Just found a rather cool site: Geeks of Doom.
They had this posting that caught my eye:
two big-time casting announcements have been made with Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes joining the cast of Louis Leterrier’s upcoming take on Clash of the Titans. Fiennes is still in the negotiation stages of the deal.
In the movie, the pair of actors will be taking on the top two gods of Greek mythology — one on the good side, and one on the evil. Liam Neeson will be taking on the role of the God of Thunder, Zeus; while Ralph Fiennes will use his skills as a creepy-ass baddie to embrace the God of the Underworld, Hades. The two larger-than-life beings are also siblings, with Hades on a destructive course toward trying to over-take his brother and rule all of Mt. Olympus.
Also starring in the movie is Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation, Avatar) as son of Zeus, Perseus; Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, King Arthur) as Draco; Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia, Quantum of Solace) as Io; and Alexa Davalos (Defiance, The Mist) as Andromeda.
Clash of the Titans is set to begin filming this month with a release March 26, 2010. Leterrier is best known as the director of Transporter 2 and The Incredible Hulk. The script is penned by Lawrence Kasdan, who also wrote Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, and Raiders of the Lost Ark, among others.

DAMN! Had I of known about the film I would have cut my hair into a ceasar do and strode up to the film set in my toga and sandals! I could so be perseus. Failing that, I am available to play calibas the mutated creature in the swamp... Who else here loved the first movie? Its right up there with classic fantasy films of the age thats for sure.

I loved The Clash of the Titans when I was a kid, so I'm pretty skeptical about the need for a re-make. Greek mythology is in the public domain, so why pay someone for the right to re-make their movie? Sure, I suppose it'll boost the DVD re-release of the original. But that doesn't make me want to go to the theatre to see it.
And I don't remember Hades being in the original, so the new movie must have a whole different dynamic that needed an overvillain (instead of just being Zeus' neglected wife.) Still, if filming is scheduled to begin this month, but the chosen actor is still in the negotiating phase, how important can the role be?
