We will be having an impromptu informal gaming event this coming Saturday at Hugin and Munin.
The original plan was to try to play some big box game like Twilight Imperium or Starcraft. Due to the RPGA game that night at the store though we probably will not have enough time. So now the plan it to try out my Xmas copy of Dominion.
I will probably grab some other games as well as Dominion doesn't take that long. Maybe my new copy of Battlestar Gallactica or Race For the Galaxy.
The event will run from Noon until about 5:30 (I need to pick up some food before the D&D game). It will be at Hugin and Munin which is located at:
1664 Tecumseh Rd. E. Windsor, Ontario, N8W 1C5
Telephone Number: 519 974 7898

I fully hope to be there. I've got Dominion: Intrigue kicking around, which can be combined with the base game and can potentially expand a game of Dominion to 8 players (why one would, I don't know - it'd be pretty unwieldly), and would be happy to bring it if that'd be useful/interesting.
...the BSG boardgame would probably be my preference, though, despite my abiding love for Dominion. Just got BSG for Christmas, and am pretty amped about it.

I've got all the xpacs for Dominion, as well as for Race. I could bring those. Though if you haven't really played either, it might be a bit much to play with all the xpacs.

I got the xpac for Race, but I haven't really played the core game more then a handful of times. I personally would like to play the original some more before messing with things.
Same with Battlestar, I got it and the xpac for Xmas but would prefer to play the original. Dominion similarly I just got and would like to try the base before any xpansions are added.
I will grab all three games and we will figure out what to play once there. I have no idea what kind of turn out we will get for something like this. It's very short notice for one, and I didn't advertise it like I would a G&G event (as I don't think the store could handle our usual 20 people).

The expansion for BattleStar Galactica can be added to the base game piecemeal. There are some pretty significant rules changes (to the base game) that is presented in the Pegasus expansion that improves the game play quite a bit. I think the piece that goes over the Cylon locations (which changes how Cylons pass extra loyalty cards) is key.
Just avoid New Caprica, BattleStar Pegasus, and the Cylon Leaders.

I saw that FF really suggested against doing this though. They mention it in the rules like 4 different times in different places.
Personally I need to get better at the base game first. Then I will try out the expansion.
Regarding the event: Thanks to those of you who came out. Got in some good games of Warhammer: Invasion, Race for the Galaxy, Dominion and a rather fun game of Battlestar Gallactica (I'm still not sure if Chris or Charles were the Cylon).

Good games to everyone. Seemed like a pretty good turn out for just a couple of days notice, which is awesome!!

I saw that FF really suggested against doing this though. They mention it in the rules like 4 different times in different places. There are variant rules towards the back of the Pegasus rule book that account for the omission of the New Caprica phase and the Cylon leaders. These extra bits can be seamlessly lifted out of the game. The rest of the expansion is pretty reliant on each part to function properly (this is what FF meant), but it does little to change the base game other than adding a little more variety (more crisis cards, more skill cards, more characters to choose from, more locations). There is also some errata type rules changes.

Unfortunately I couldn't tell you.
While one group played Invasion I had another group at a different table playing Dominion. After our game of Dominion finished, they took that game and we played Race for the Galaxy. After that game ended, we brought the two tables together and all played Battlestar Galactica.

No, no chance on the 30th. We have plans that day.
The weekend after would work though.
As I haven't made reservations yet, or sent out any advertising we can easily move it.

Technically the weekend after the 30th falls on the 6th February. My suggestion is to keep the next G&G on the 23rd... wait for it... AND do one on the 6th of February! That would be more. I like more. Especially when it comes to games. And food. More is practically my favourite food. /weird
That's my two cents. -Jamie

Actually I had my timing off on the event on the 30th. We are free to have a G&G then. Personally I think this is actually a better date just for the fact it's about two weeks away.
I still hadn't made reservations for the 23rd, nor have I done any advertising except on here. By waiting until the 30th I would expect a better turn out. There is one other thing I'm taking into consideration. RPGA at Hugin and Munin is cancelled on Jan 30th due to a Magic The Gathering Event. I know that some of the people who attend RPGA also like to attend G&G events, so this should mean that more people may be able to make it out that could not normally.
Every couple of weeks doing this would be great, but there's no way I could get a sitter that often. That's the main reason for the once a month timeline we have now.
So the event is now tentatively on the 30th of January. I do still need to get reservations etc.
As with the last event, if people want to get together at some point to play some games they don't have to wait for an 'official event'. The day we had at Hugin and Munin with 6 of us was a ton of fun. Perhaps just something small at the store on the 23rd may still work out.

The Games and Grub on the 30th is good for me. I wouldn't mind an impromptu gathering on the 23th because i'm now free to play.

I would definitely attend an 'impromptu' event for this Sat. That makes 2, i'm sure there are more. Gilvan, is this something you can put on the windsor gaming resource facebook wall, so people can get the notification? Personally I can bring (quick ones): Race for the Galaxy Dominion Thunderstone Warhammer invasion Small World If we're in a bbg mood, even though it might be a partial game I can bring Twilight Imperium Starcraft Descent Tide of iron WoW

Okay Ian (Huginandmunin) contacted me and confirmed that the store is free that day and asked if we wanted to use it.
I spoke to the wife and I am free to play some games this Sat. as well.
I would actually like to do something Big Box. I'm thinking TI or Starcraft. We can fit up to 6 players and have 3 already.
I'll start a new thread and post something on facebook.
