I went to my first Blood Bowl tournament this weekend and I had a lot of fun. I played five games over two days, which is about as many games as I've played in the last 10 years. It also turns out that I've been reading certain rules wrong all this time, so it was definitely a learning experience. And I was the only guy to bring a passing team, while the other guys mostly brought orcs or norse this weekend, so I might as well have brought halflings for all the damage I did. My team, the Oldcastle Spitfires: Here's an orc team lining up against my humans. I squeaked out a tie thanks to the dice, which I lent my opponent because he'd forgotten his (that'll teach him!) The boards were custom made for the tournament. A norse team on the blitz against me. That coach went on to win the Most TDs award. Ulfwereners from the norse team that won the Best Team award (and there's the coach in 25mm scale on the right.) And it was another norse team that won first place, as well as the Most Casualties award. There might be a relationship between the two... I managed to win one game against a team of Chaos Dwarfs, thanks to a pitch invasion by crazed fans that left his defense lying down in the last minutes of the game. So I came in eleventh place, and I'm looking forward to doing better at the next tournament I can make it to. I probably won't take a human team.

It was in Mississauga, and I had to get up at 4 in the morning to get everyone ready and in the car so that we could be there by 9. And I had been marathon painting that whole week so that my team would be ready, so I was pretty wired when it was finally time to start playing. I took a lot of pictures, but most of them turned out blurry because my hands were shaking too much, and I had to hurry with the shots when my opponent was waiting for me to put the camera down and play already.
There's another tournament next month, but of course I'm working that weekend. The only way I got last weekend off was by using my vacation time.
