Have to say this sounds pretty cool. I love how it ties in the Practical Guide to Monsters (another great book). In our latest new release for young readers, Monster Slayers by Lukas Ritter, Evin, a young rogue, has dreamed of being a real hero for as long as he can remember. And when his entire village is kidnapped by gnolls, he finally gets his wish. With the help of his fighter friend Jorick, a young elf wizard named Betilivatis, and a guidebook of magical beasts called A Practical Guide to Monsters, Evin treks through ancient ruins and faces all kinds of monsters—from an ormyrr to a chimera—just as he begins to suspect that not everything on this simple quest is exactly as it seems. Now Evin and his friends aren’t the only ones who will benefit from the wisdom of the Practical Guide to Monsters in their monster encounters. We now have a new, game-legal magic item, based on the guidebook, to help you conquer the monsters of your own D&D adventures! The next time your character is shopping in town, consider picking one up. And while you’re there, don’t forget a copy of Monster Slayers so you can find out why KA Applegate, author of Animorphs and Remnants called it: "Scary, funny, surprising—Monster Slayers is a wild, hold-on-tight thrill ride." www.wizards.com/dnd/Article.aspx?x=dnd/4dnd/20100510

Thanks for posting this: I think that I'll pick it up for my brother: he isn't much of a reader, and I want something to him get started on.
If it happens to be nerdy; all the better.
