Free RPG day today got me to thinking.... What if we had a big RPG swap meet? I have a pile of like 20 modules and sourcebooks from all different systems sitting here in front of me. We've either already ran them, or read them, or have no intention to ever do so.
My idea is to just have a table full of stuff and trade one for one. Bring one item, take one home. Not worry about cover prices or any of that.
We could hold it one afternoon over the course of a few hours. People could come and go , or hang out and chat about gaming or maybe even get a game going. Maybe this should be held during a Games and Grub? So, anybody interested? Any ideas?

Actually, I like that idea a lot! I'd be up for it, for sure. I'll go through my storage bins and see what I can drag out!

I don't have much in the way of RPG stuff I'm looking to trade, but I'd be interested in buying books and stuff if we had a swap like this. Make it almost like a Bazaar or something, buy, sell, or trade maybe?

A little thread necromancy to see if I can drum up any further interest.
Re: possibility of bazaar/sales.. Possibly... depends on the venue, I think. I was strictly thinking swap... but set it up like this...
You bring in your books and put them on The Table. For each item you bring you get one token. I will have over 20 items I'd be bringing personally, so there will be stuff on the table to start with. For each token (aka for each item you bring) you can take one item from the table. Strictly a one to one swap. But you are swapping with the table, not directly with the person that brought item x. So if "Joe" has a book you want, but you don't have anything he wants, you can still trade.
Does that make sense?
For venue I'm thinking either the next Games and Grub, or possibly ask Ian if he'd let us do something like this at H&M some afternoon (which definitely precludes cash exchanging hands).

I'm up for it. I think H&M may be better then a G&G. G&G tends to draw out boardgamers more then roleplayers (at least comparing the people at a G&G to the people who show up for RPGA, though there is some overlap). There's also the problem of the reception this would get from our current G&G venue. Not sure how well something like that would go over as well as wondering if we could get people into the KofC just to trade some RPGs.
A RPGA day would probably be perfect for it as there would be roleplayers already there. I don't want to assume that Ian and Duane want us using their store for this though. The next Worldwide D&D game day may be even better as that tends to draw out more then 'the regulars'
One more thought: though it may add a level of complexity you don't want, perhaps two different tables for two different values. One table for modules and other softcovers another for full rulebooks, hardcovers and boxed sets?

I like this idea. I just don't know what I could bring that people would want.

Yeah that's not a bad idea. I think that wouldn't be too complicated.

I'm thinking we could combine this with the plans for the Miniature Painting event. Minatures and RPGs go together like Strongbow and Guiness

So, Here's what I'm thinking: Two tables, one for modules/softcovers, maps, etc, one for full rulebooks, hardcovers and boxed sets. Place an item on table one, the softcover table and get one token. Place an item on table two, the hardcover table and get two tokens.
Trade in one token for any one item from the softcover table. Or trade in two tokens for any one item from the hardcover table.
What do you think? Sound about right?

Yeah, that sounds great. When are you thinking this could happen? I've got some books I'd be willing to trade.

So far it looks like this will be combined with our Miniature Painting event and that is scheduled for October 16th.
