Hey there. Whenever I come on to these forums I see quite a few guests. If a guest feels like leaving a message to say hi to the regular users and if they feel like it explain who they are and how they found the site.

That would be rather cool.
This forum is filled with lurkers. We get over 150 unique visits a day, which is pretty damn good for a local gaming site. The problem is that people just jump on and check what's new, or read a review and don't actually log in (heck even I'm guilty of this as I will jump on and see if there are any new posts or hit the latest 30 without logging in).
It used to be a lot easier for guests to post but I had to put in some captcha scripts because we were being flooded with spam. I could potentially try removing those and seeing how things go. I was bad before though with 5-15 spam posts a day.

Guest posts are good though: I think most people, if they post once or twice as guests, get some responses, and conversation starts, will create an account.

Well removed everything I had added. It looks like there is still a captcha included when you post as a guest which must have been added by proboards.
