well the story goes is that I love D&D - yet I know no one who plays. In fact, I haven't seriously played since high school (i.e. 15 years ago). I would love to find a group that is willing to take on a rusty old newb and bring them into their group. I'm looking to get back into the world that I loved so many years ago and meet some new people with like interests. I loved playing quirky mages that burned their labs down when something went wrong and I love playing the absolute good of being a templar and everything in between. I would love to get back into gaming and really enjoying what I experienced those 15 years ago...

If you are interested in trying out the latest edition (4th edition Essentials) then the best place to do so is at Dungeons and Dragons Encounters. The local FLGS Hugin and Munin hosts Encounters sessions every Wednesday night at 7:00PM.
Encounters is a pretty cool program where they have short 1-2 hour sessions once a week. You generally do a bit of RP or exploration or a Skill Challengs and then fight through one combat. The program is broken up into seasons with each being about 12 weeks long. Right now the current season is featuring the Shadowfell (a new plane reminiscent of the old Ravenloft).
You can bring a 1st level character built with any of the core rulebooks. The season is designed for the new Heroes of Books but the store is allowing any 1st level characters. If you don't have the books and don't want to pick them up they also have a selection of pre-generated characters that will let you jump in right away.
Everyone that goes is more then willing to tollerate and help out new players, as that is the entire point of Encounters.
If you dig encounters then I suggest looking into the RPGA. This is more traditional style D&D where you make a 1st level character (again any source) and play through traditional modules that run for 4-5 hours. We try to do RPGA events every two weeks (see this forum and the sidebar for our upcoming events). Your characters for these events are RPGA legal and can be brought to any RPGA event worldwide. Check out any of the RPGA event threads for more details.
