I want to give a shout out to WagonCon, probably the newest convention here in Oregon. It's a really small convention, perfect for relaxing with a non-stressful bunch of amazing people. The next event will be May 4th-6th 2018, and at some point they'll likely put up another swag-heavy (and swag awesome) Kickstarter for it. For now, check out their website: www.wagoncon.com/
I attended it for the first time this past month, and made the following post about my experiences there:

I spent the past weekend at a rather new "local" gaming convention called Wagoncon. Located an hour and a half away in the adorable small town of The Dalles, OR, this con started up in 2016 as a heavily community-focused event. The main two hosts are both really good friends of mine in the Oregon gaming communities, and what they've done with the event is just plain awe-inspiring. I must say, in all honesty this was the most enjoyable, exciting, and downright heart-warming gaming event I've experienced in the last decade (and longer). Small cons are my jam and provide for me exactly the kind of gaming experiences that I most passionately seek. These are where the people shine the best, with smiles and laughter more genuine than I have ever known at such gatherings.
That's exactly what I wanted from my weekend vacation. I'm addicted to that experience now, too. I think I'm just done with larger cons for the foreseeable future. They never satisfy my desire for actual community, and always leave me unpleasantly overwhelmed and exhausted. Not so with Wagoncon. Now I need more of that in my life!
Thanks for an amazing weekend, folks. I'll definitely be back next year!
