Found a link to this as an add in a newsletter I get and it caught my eye. Now this isn't a comprehensive piece of software that will make character sheet, roll dice, generate treasure, map things or any of that. It is really a simple piece of software for tracking notes. Important things like the pc's name and siblings and background. Notes on places and encounters, topics, rumors, the campaign broken down into scenes etc. This actually seems very useful. This software was actually designed as a personal information senter to track all kinds of things like your bookmarks, your accounting, other notes. Some roleplayers used it and sold the concept to the designers so that they actually market it that way now. More info herE: www.milenix.com/rpg.phpNow the big issue: $49! US. You have to be pretty serious to start using this. If anyone finds something similar for a cheaper price please post something. Personally I prefer shareware that gives me the basic tools then if I really like it I will pay for the 'gold' edition.

Quite frankly it looks like pretty basic software that I or Necron could generate in a couple of days with VB. Simple hierarchical database stuff. Nice concept, but pretty low tech.

More to the point, were I to give you a copy of VB (which is really pretty simple, especially considering the (even if mostly forgotten) knowledge of pogramming you have learned, and we were to co-author some works, perhaps even the one mentioned in the other thread.. we would not have to SPEND money on someone elses, and perhaps (since you already have a web marketplace) even MAKE money off the process.. This is in fact the second time in 3 days I have found some opportunity to make money on the web.. although knowing me neither will likely take off

True enough.
The only problem is I am not going to bother authoring anything for roleplaying for myself since as mentioned before I don't have a computer avaliable to me when I play. For anything I am going to track outside of the game simple office programs will do.
Now getting back to the dream of having a DM Monitor instead of screen - once this happens then maybe I will be so inclined to write sofware for use on it.
The most likely result though would be me using the internet to find the free alternative - which is always out there.

Well, considering your house IS networked, my laptop would be a handy alternative were we ever able to game when I was able to get down... easy enough to transfer info off your system to mine before and after a game... Of course that doesn't solve the problem of me living 4 hours away.. but it's a start

I know what I can do. Work hard on getting a promotion that grants me a laptop. I tried that once already and the promotion part worked, the problem was that the guy I got the job from 'lost' the laptop. Company couldn't budget for a replacement so I lost out. Of course even then their are rules for using laptops for personal use same as with the desktop on my desk... um... oops

Hmm.. and THAT is why I'm glad I have my OWN laptop when I'm working Not that the IP Angels on some shows can't track me down if I'm doing things they disapprove of..
