Was looking through gamingreport this morning and came across an ad for something called Coupons and Feats. This was a free Download from RPGNow that included a few new D20 feats and a bunch of coupons for various products on RPGnow. As this was free, I thought I would check it out. Here's what I thought:
The free download included 6 new feats for Fantasy D20. They are generic enough they should work in and D20 system but were obviously written for D&D.
I find most of these pdf and lists of free feats are usually a little out of balance with the core feats from the main system. These 6 are no exception. One of them is a Bard Specifc feat that allows the bard to shout. This causes a beam like attack in a striaght line that dose damage to all in range and may cause deafness. That seems a bit much to me. A couple are interesting as they let the character give up something for something else. For example there is one where a Barbian can give up one of his Rages for the day to heal the party. Now it seems dumb to me for a barbarien to have healing, but I like the concept of giving up a daily use of an ability to do something else.
The coupons. There weren't as many as I expected but there was one for something I have definately considered picking up. A few times on here I have featured EZ-Tiles. These are PDF files containing everything you need to do up a dungeon in full colour 1" squares. They are rather nice looking and rather cheap. The coupon is for $1.00 of a regular set, or $5.00 off one of their mega sets. Other coupons are for various D20 Pdfs and mostly consist of reduced pricing (Was $2.50, get it for $0.50).
What is well done is that the coupons don't need any codes or printing. There are links right in them leading to rpgnow and it automatically adds in the discount.
Overall: a cool concept. The feats are a little (okay a lot) over the top, and I probably wouldn't allow them in my game. The coupons are sparce but there is at least one I am thinking of getting. Can't beat the price, of a free download.
