Picked up The Crypt set from H&M the other day and was really impressed.
Quickly: great for the price, very sturdy
Summary: Wizards has released a series of dungeon tiles. These are nice thick board about the same thickness as you find in modern boardgames (think the hexes from Twilight Imperium). You get 4 sheets in a pack and each sheet has a variety of rooms, hallways, alcoves, and scenery elements. Each pice is die cut and two sided. At this time 4 different sets have been released alowing for a wide range of maps and combinations.
The Good: sturdiest dungeon tiles I have seen. Nice think hardboard. Like a nice game board from someone like Fantasy Flight. Very nice art as well. The standard tiles are good for pretty much any layout. The two sided nature is awesome. I picked up the Crypt set and on one large tile is an ourdoor shot, a Mosoleum and grave with a worn path leading to the door. The other side is a huge hall, perfect for a mass combat. The scenery bits are rather nice as well. Columns, sarcofagi, statues etc. All the tiles are also denoted with the 1" grid now used by most RPGs. These don't look Overly fantasy. They do look fantasy but I don't think my players would be complaining if I used the hallways to represent the passages of a space ship. The best part, all this greatness for about $12.
The Bad: You only get four boards, which really isn't enough to make all that big a dungeon. Of course at the price it may be worth picking up more then one of each. The two sided part is great, but can be a bit annoying when you want to use a diagonal stair and a raised dias.
The Ugly: I would have really prefered some form of simple adventure or rules with these. Something as cheesy as a random table for the Fountain element, just would have been cool.
Overall: one of the best, more usefull RPG products I have ever picked up. They are amazingly sturdy, well printed and well cut. They can be used for pretty much any setting and are already 'gridded' for combat. I will definately be picking up the other 3 in the series and wouldn't be suprised if I end up picking up some duplicates.
