Let me start off by saying... wow. Who would've thought being a little alien running around cloning people, reading their minds, hurling them around using psychic abilities and hypnotising them to go to your UFO so you can abduct them would be so much fun.
I thought it would be pretty good, but, then when I realized I could also fly in the UFO, and use a death ray and destroy massive buildings and armies, and I could also abduct people and cows and tractors and the fact of the matter is, this game is amazing.
First of all, the sound is great. I love the voices. When you read peoples minds, not only do they have thoughts written out, but, they have voices too. Granted, some of the things they say are repetative, but, that's just fine, because there are so many various people.
Also, I haven't seen a game in a while with such an underlying message of "people are idiots!" and it's awesome. At one point, I cloned a Mayor, and had to put on a speech for people explaining why their cows were exploding, and why some giant fair was destroyed. You get to choose from 5 options, and you get asked about 10 questions. If you don't impress the audience 3 times, then they get angry! luckily for me, I didn't have that experience. I blamed it all on communists, and people not being patriotic enough... sounds like a logical american explanation circa 1960.
The controls are easy and simplistic, and the system of weapons is pretty good. There isn't really ammo (except for the disintigration ray and other various ammo weapons) but there are always weapons that can just recharge by not being used. The camera angles are pretty decent, and you can move them around if you wish. The targetting system is good, and it's just amazing to use your alien powers on people.
The game revolves around you going to earth and collecting DNA. The Alien race is running out, and they usually just clone each other, but, they're becoming weaker and need more DNA.
one of my favorite parts of the game is that you start out as Crypto 136. Everytime you die, you just turn into the number following that. Which is awesome.
Also, you have a sweet jetpack that you can fly around.
Another great aspect is that everytime you accomplish something, or perhaps you die, there is a newspaper that pops up showing you some sort of "explanation" to what happened. For example, once I drowned, and the article said "fishboy found in like". Another time I destroyed an entire village with my UFO's deathray, and the headlines read something about Mad Cows causing the problem.
The game is an absolute riot. If you like Aliens, and you like destroying stuff, and you like the idea of being an Alien who destroys stuff, then Destroy All Humans is for you. With it's GTA like Engine, and it's pure comedic value, I suggest at LEAST renting it. It's still newish, so it's still sorta expensive to purchase, but, if you've got some money to blow on a game, Destroy All Humans would be a pretty good choice. I'm not entirely sure of the longevity of the game, I've only had a few hours to play it so far, but, from what I'm seeing, if you want to accomplish EVERYTHING it will probabaly take some serious time and devotion.
