Yeah, it's an older title, but I picked it up last week . . . admittedly only because the cover was pretty. I had heard about it vaguely, but my expectations weren't all that high. (Which turned out to be a good thing.)
Bottomline: It's a true hack and slash with a bit of a fetch quest thrown in. If you're a fan of Forgotten Realms or D&D, you'll probably enjoy it mildly.
Good Stuff: the visuals were great - setting, character design . . the voice acting was well done (and even had some distinguished voices such as Patrick Stewart and Michael Clarke Duncan), the gameplay was pretty quick and smooth, good loading times, the story was decent.
Bad Stuff: Where to begin? the boss battles were more tedious than hard, the companion ai was a joke (if you play this game, keep in mind that just about every boss battle requires the mage character to blast the boss long range with his magic, you would expect that your two companions would protect you or atleast help fight said boss, but no, generally they just stand there and look pretty), whichever character you take control of is the one the boss attacks (the only one it attacks) which reaches the level of exceptionally stupid during the dragon level - you run around trying to dodge fireballs while the other two characters stand off to the side . . . what else? pretty damn short, I played leisurely over maybe three days and had it beat, the camera was a bitch at the best of times. I think the thing that bothered me the most though, was the fact that the mage's health bar was about the same colour as the background so I could never tell if he was 100% or nearly dead.
So yeah, that's my feelings on the game. It was alright, it passed the time. My favorite character was Drizzt, the rebel Drow, who you only got to play as in one chapter . . .
***It's always a party of three, fighter, rogue, mage. Fighter=macho male, Rogue=sarcastic female, Mage= sensitive but wise male . . . can we please break from the cliches?!
