Quickly: a ton of fun with some great songs, but man it's hard.
Summary: This is another one of those great rythm games with a funky controller. This time the controller is a guitar and the rythm is Rock. Follows the same general premise as all these games, notes scroll by and you hit buttons at the right time. In this one the notes scroll down and you are required to hit the right fretts (one or more of 6 colour buttons on the neck of the guitar) as well as strum the toggle (an odd white bit replacing the strings that actually works really well). The muisc is your expected mix of new and old rock songs with a bunch of unlockable songs from bands that won a contest to get in the game.
The Good: it's fun, it's really fun. This would be a great party game and thus far is my favourite of the instrament games out there. Most of the music is actually really good, and even the songs you may not like as much you can see why they put them in when you listen to the guitaring in them. The songs sound great, great quality that rocked on my surround sound.
The superstar thing I loved. When you fill a certain guage half full you can 'crank' the guitar, turning it litterally straight up at 90o unlocking superstar mode for tons of points.
The Bad: except for the contest winners, all of the songs are covers. You have 6 characters to choose from but your band never changes. The unlockables, accept for the songs just weren't that cool. Who really cares what your characters guitar looks like, you are too busy watching the notes to notice anyway. The price. This retails for about $100 CDN, mainly due to having the guitar controller included. This will be too steep a price for many.
The Ugly: HARD! Okay the easy level was a ton of fun and not that easy but doable after a bit of practice. Medium ups the stakes so much many players may quit at this point. With practice though the songs are again doable (though still not 6 of them for me). I haven't even seen hard, and then their is a level above that. It definately takes some talent and practice to be good at this one.
Overall: this game is a ton of fun, but it gets hard quick. The song selection and quality is excellent as is the guitar controller included.
