Quickly: I started a guilty pleasure thread a while back and this belongs there. The best Harvest Moon I have played.
Summary: okay I know it's sad, but: You play a farmer, you just moved to a village, you buy a plot of land and you farm. You plant plants, water them, ship them and make money. You get enough money you buy a chicken coop and start raising chickens. More money means a barn and Cows, Horses and Sheep. To supliment this you Mine, fish and forrage for goods. To keep your stamina up you cook, often using the items you yourself found/grew. While all this is going on meet the NPCs, eventually find a Mate, and try to wake the Harvest Godess by collecting musical notes.
The Good: Trust me it's fun and addictive. It's kind like the sims, when you describe it to someone, it sounds like utter bolloks but then they play it and get hooked for like a month until they kick the habbit, some never do. It really is a ton of fun. This is the best one yet, I don't know now many 'moon games there are, but there are a lot. The biggest problem with the older ones is there were just too many things to do. Each had a new tool or a new animal, or a new wirlygig that needed your attention, and you never had time to do it all. This one has just enough to keep you busy and enough to fill those times when you finish your chores early. If you want a rated E game, there is nothing more E then a Natsume game.
The Bad: The graphics aren't much to look at. Now it's traditional for this style of game and this company for over simplified cute graphics, but come on, you can make things look better then that. I just don't understand how this same company can make Animal Crossing and not make a Harvest Moon where my wife and I can play at once in the same city. The sound. You might as well put on your MP3 player after the first second of this game because you won't be missing much. As is typical for this style of game, sound is kept to a minimum, with characters maybe uttering one short word as you talk to them followed by the Nintendo Text sound.
The Ugly: the "Just one more day" syndrome. This game is rated E crack. There is always that one more thing you need to see, that one more thing to do, that requires only one more day of play. "I can't stop now, I can afford a sheep tomorrow" I can't stop now "I have a new sheep and have to feed it". I can't stop now since there was a Monsoon and my crops got ruined and I need to re-plant. I can't stop now, my sheep may grow to adulthood. You know this style of game.
Overall: by far the best Harvest Moon I have played. It had everything that made me play the first one I found on Gameboy when I thought, this is fun, but just not quite my thing. This had my thing. It's sad that a game where you farm and raise animals and can't kill anything is this much fun.
