Okay another one what I am trying well after it was released.
Summary: a RTS based on the Warhammer 40K universe. Take control of the Blood Ravens space marine legion in a single player campaign, or control Eldar, Orks, Chaos Mariens or Marines on a variety of scenario maps, or take your game online and battle the world.
The Good: the army painter is one of the most fun parts of this game. Set up so that you can fairly accurately match your real life 40K army (or your favourite scheme you have seen). There is even a colour chooser that uses the names of Citadel Paints. The graphics and animations are so 40K The way bases are built, units move and look, it's all very true to the licence. The gameplay is as you would expect from an RTS, and a good one. Reminds me of Starcraft the most, which isn't a bad thing. Games thus far (up to scenario 8) are fairly quick and you can complete multiple in a night. The sound is pretty excellent. I haven't tried online but I know enough people have raved about it.
The Bad: the graphics are getting a bit dated. They are still nice espectially for so many units moving around at once, but I know they could do better now. Thus far the scenarios are a bit on the easy side (this may change as I get further in). It's 40K units and it's almost like having a tabletop, but it doesn't really feel like 40K. It's still feels the most like playing a Tabletop game out of any Warhammer game I have played thus far though.
The Ugly: the cut scenes. These are done with the in game graphics, which look great zoomed out and with 100 guys on teh field, not so much in close up. The dated graphics really show, you get a few 'jumps' and the voice acting leaves something to be desired.
Overall: if you are a fan of 40K pick this up and if you like a good RTS pick this up. Looking forward to picking up the two expansions for this once I finish the main campaign and then trying the world online. Best RTS I have played since Starcraft (though I have to admit I haven't played many since then).
