I rented Fable when it first came out and was underwhealmed. I think all the hype ruined it for me. I found the biggest problem was that they whole morality aspect of the game was nothing more then a mini game. It didn't affact the story, the quests or the missions you got. It just made people either cheer or leer at you. The Lost chapters claimed to have fixed this so I picked it up.
Summary: The Greatest Hits version of Fable was released with some additional content. New quests, most alignment based, new weapons, new emotions, etc. Still the same gameplay but with more stuff, and at a cheaper price due to it's Platnum hits status.
The Good: most stuff is always a good thing and even better at a cheaper price. I couldn't tell you exactly what was added and what wasn't but I will tell you this. When I rented the game before I wasn't a fan, having played this rendition, I am now a fan. I am having a great time this time around. The morality and somewhat open ended gameplay is what keeps me playing. In between quests you can wander the world and do as you like (somewhat GTA style). You can get married, buy a house, buy a whore house, rob people, kill people, abuse bards, kick chickens, sit around and eat all day and get fat, etc. All actions are represented in your character as his alignments, build, look, hair colour, etc change with your actions. The fact the entire game is voice acted makes me very happy. I love when devs. do that.
The Bad: The above mentioned voice acting, eveyrone has some silly accent and it can get annoying. The graphics are dated. Okay when this came out it was top of the line. The lighting effects are still rather impressive but the character models are not. Some of the added things like Fishing and using a spade to dig things up are done poorly and just feel like an 'add on'. Alignment still doesnt' affect things as much as I would like them to.
The Ugly: the inventory management system is one of the worst I have ever used. It's set up using the direction pad where you have to press up first then select a type of item, then select the item (up and down to scroll, right to select) then select what to do with the item, etc. It's highly annoying and near impossible to use in combat.
Overall: I'm having a great time with Fable this time around. Still not sure if I just didn't give it enough of a chance last time or if there is that much in the Lost Chapters. At the Platnum hits price of $30 (less some places) new and around $20 used (Blockbuster) this is a great game for that price. Heck it's probably a good enough game for full price. There's great replay as you want to try to play a different 'character' each time.
