Quickly: still insane, not as much fun solo, less story.
[glow=blue,2,300]Summary:[/glow]
The follow up to the hit Wii launch title, Rayman: Raving Rabbids. This is another collection of mini games staring Rayman and the insane killer rabbit things, the Rabbids. This time instead of Rayman being sucked into Rabbid world, the Rabbids have invaded our world.
You play Rayman (or a group of people play Rabbids and/or Rayman) and take trips to various real world locations (South America, The US, The UK, Europe, Asia). At each location you do a series of 6 mini games. The first 5 are random and the last is always a musical rhythm game. You get scored on each mini game and then get a rank for your overall score for the trip. Beating pre-set high scores and finishing trips for the first time unlock costumes for the various characters.
The trips are set up with two difficulty levels each so that people with different skill levels with the Wiimote can play together and enjoy the game. After each level you can also upload your score online to see how your rank vs all the other people willing to upload their scores. The are a few extra modes that let you design your own trip from all of the mini games you have played in the trip mode. You can also play with the music settings and play stand alone mini games.
The mini games themselves are as insane as the original game. The biggest difference is that most of them are designed for four players competing against each other as well as working toward a high score. There are more then 5 mini games for each level as they randomize, but I couldn't tell you how many as each trip I took had a ton of repeats and only one or two new levels. The games themselves widely very from pretending you are talking on a phone at the movies (by holding the wiimote to your ear and listening to blather out the wiimote speaker) to playing baseball with a Rabbid (flipping both wiimote and nunchuck to run the bases and the swinging the wiimote to hit the runner with a bat).
After beating a trip you also unlock a new level in the shooting gallery. This is a twist on the original game as all you can do is shoot and re-load. The levels are comprised of video of real world places with attacking rabbids ransacking the places.
[glow=green,2,300]The Good:[/glow]
This game, like the last one is hilarious. I haven't laughed out loud as often to a game since the first Rabbids game. The graphics are done really well, especially the shooting levels where the rabbids are superimposed over real world video of famous places around the world. The games are still designed well and use the Wiimote and nunchuck well.
[glow=yellow,2,300]The Bad:[/glow]
The new shooting levels while graphically well done are not nearly as much fun as the ones from the first game. Having that odd metal hand thing to grab rabbids and toss them was just too much fun. I actually found these boring after the first one. The fact that all of the games are designed for four players would be great, if I had four friends over often enough to play this, and if I had four wiimotes, and four nunchucks. Unfortunately I don't often have that and didn't for the entirety of the rental of this game. It's just not that great a solo game. Perhaps with four people competing I may have loved this one, but playing solo it just isn't as much fun as the first game. I also found that some of the mini-games were just too long. I would get bored in the middle of them. Again I think these are the ones that would probably be the most fun with four people, but paying keep away with a football against 3 computer controlled bunnies is only fun for about 30 seconds, not the 2 minutes the game lasts.
[glow=red,2,300]The Ugly:[/glow]
Just not enough of anything. There isn't enough story to this. There isn't enough filler. There aren't nearly enough trips you can take (only 5). There aren't nearly enough levels on each trip. It just seems like everything is toned down from the last game. It's just not as interesting and there isn't as much there to be interested in.
[glow=purple,2,300]Overall:[/glow]
The sequel to Raving Rabbids is just as funny as the original and will have you laughing out loud at it's insanity. The games are as original and the controls are just as excellent. Unfortunately there just aren't enough games to play. There isn't a story to be played through as well (I enjoyed watching the crowd slowly turn, becoming Rayman fans in the last one). The whole game seems to have been created for four player play, which really hurts the solo game. This would be great if everyone had 4 wiimotes, 4 nunchucks and 3 friends available to play. If you do have this then maybe this would be a good game to pick up, otherwise rent it when you know you will have company, and pick up part one to play when you won't.
