Okay finished the read though and just thought I would put some general thoughts down based on how I think a game would go. Haven't played yet so no concrete evidence yet.
This will not be for everyone. Not that that is a problem but I am wondering how you will 'market' it so that the right people get their hands on it. It's a great concept but it's not going to be for every group. There will be groups out there that love it and groups that would never play it ever.
Conflic Resolution and Agressive Sceening, you used these mechanics (well the concepts, the mechanics were a bit different) in Timestream. It would probably benifit all if you reviewed it with us again.
Keeping track of the Fodder. That's an aweful lot of guys for the GM to keep track of:
Do all of them need burdens? I assume you need something for each characters as the Grunts can take on the burden of a dead Fodder, so you need to know what that Burden was (like having to go back to the US and explain to a sick mother her son won't be by her side when she dies).
Does the Fodder ever give orders? Highes rank gives orders during action, highest ranked grunt only? It has to be this way otherwize the players will be giving dice to the GM or the GM then.
This really wasn't what I expected. When you stated that it would be played in one session I didn't expect something so open ended. As in on session could take some time, and there is a ton of replay value as the scenes would change each game. I expected more of a 'tournament module' type of thing like you see for D20. Here are your characters, here is the adventure, it should take about 3 hours, go! I am again impressed by the format, the concept and the balls to try something like this.
Maybe I am just innocent in the ways of modern rpgs but you just don't see stuff like this out there.
Still no firm date on when we will give this one a go. Heading up to Toronto next weekend so will be away from the table for a couple weeks. Hopfully after that. I think a couple players may really like this, and I exepct a couple to dislike it just as much.
