The scenario based combat of Tide of Iron is part of what makes the game so unique. FFG has collected dozens of fan-created scenarios on our Tide of Iron scenario site and we welcome all the more! In fact, we want to offer a challenge to all would-be scenario designers: Create a 45 minute or less introductory scenario which will act as a "boot camp" for first-time players. Six boards, eight rounds, and a month's design and play testing time!
This will be no easy undertaking! The scenarios should be simple enough for a brand new player, yet detailed enough to show off some of the best mechanics of the game. Think of it as a short crash course in squad-based combat for the uninitiated!
Scenarios must be made with no more than 6 map boards and last no more than 8 rounds. Participants are asked to use Mike Zebrowski's Tide of Iron Scenario Builder. This will create uniform entires and easily-downloadable pdfs of the scenarios. Entries are limited to one per person, so make that one shot count!
Entries must also include a one-page introduction to the scenario describing the story and the background of the battle, including that battle's impact on the over-all war. This introduction should be an indicator of how interesting and flavorful the scenario will be, so make sure this piece is finely and creatively crafted!
Participants will have until the 20th of August to send in their scenarios. Though this may seem like a long time, quality entries will have to be thoroughly researched and play tested. Get started now!
Scenarios may be submitted to: tideofiron@fantasyflightgames.com
The winner will have their scenario professionally recreated by our graphic design team for use as a permanent feature on the Tide of Iron official scenario website, a hot-off-the-presses copy of the upcoming Tide of Iron: Designer Series Volume 1 scenario book and bragging rights for the rest of their life.
Guidelines and Hints
Firstly, this contest surrounds the base game only. Do not include any components that are not already included in the base game (no new Operation cards, Strategy cards, squad specializations, terrain features, or tokens). However, scenarios can always include special rules and conditions. Just keep in mind that this is an introductory scenario and players should not be required to print out extra cards and tokens.
Secondly, Tide of Iron creators as well as the designers who developed the game's original scenarios will be selecting the top 5 entries for the public vote. A compelling introduction will get you a long way with this crowd.
Lastly, The best scenarios don't have a lot of special rules to simulate historical realism. The story of the battle should unfold during gameplay. Typically, keeping the historical details in the introductory section of the scenario is better than implementing a ton of obscure and situational special rules.
Contest Rules and Info
All entries must be received by August 20th, 2008.
One entry per person.
International participants welcomed!
By submitting your scenarios to FFG, you are swearing that you, and no one else, wrote and designed the scenario.
The top 5 scenarios (as determined by a panel of Tide of Iron designers) will be posted for a public vote by the 22nd of August.
The public poll will close on September 5th, and the winner will be announced on September 8th.
Submitted scenarios become the property of Fantasy Flight Games and may be posted on the FFG website.
Participants in this contest may not be employed by FFG.
