Been a while since I've heard anything Dust related. There was such a huge amount of hubub when Dust first launched. Simultaneous Boardgame and Comic books releases. Some new world we were supposed to fall in love with. Then nothing. Until now:

A lot has happened since I posted this. The biggest thing being Fantasy Flight taking over the license and the game. This one is coming out soon and the usual Fantasy Flight previews are coming out. Here's one looking at movement and unit activation. www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=1502so far it's sounding pretty good. Some highlights: "Dust Tactics is a tactical miniatures board game that can be learned in minutes, yet the system offers layers of strategic depth and remarkable tactical challenges that you can enjoy for many years to come!" "If you’re a miniatures painter, and because the models have already been base-coated, you can quickly personalize your models even further. The primed surface will perfectly accept any standard model paint and weathering" "the length of a game can be dictated either by scenario or by the players" "When a unit is activated, it may take one of the following combinations of actions: * Move up to 2 times (Move + Move) * Move, then Attack if desired (Move + Attack) * Attack, then Move if desired (Attack + Move) * Sustained Attack (Attack + Attack) " "Each unit’s reference card displays all the in-game information you need including movement, armor and health values, unit special abilities, and its army points value" "Measuring movement and range is a simple matter of counting the number of squares between both locations, for example between the attacker and their target." Sounds kind of like the D&D combat system to me.

It's really tempting to get into a "Weird War II" game, and the artwork is really excellent, but I'm going to wait to see how much support this game gets before I buy into it. Dust is like the prequel to AT-43 (has two of the same creators,) which Fantasy Flight distributed for Rackham a few years ago, but then dropped rather suddenly.
I don't know how many hours of play the basic game will offer, and the 1/35 scale that they've chosen is great for detailed models but not so hot for complex scenarios on the tabletop. And it's too big to be compatible with West Wind's "Secrets of the Third Reich" in 28mm scale, which doesn't have as beautiful giant robots, but has more miniatures available and more conversion options to their scale. Both worlds have Nazi cyborg gorillas: it must be some kind of Jungian archetype.

Dust was supposed to be this huge new brand. There was a boardgame released, a TV series and a comic book all at the same time. There was a ton of press in the gaming channels but not much else. The game was pretty good, similar to Axis and Allies but better having to do with Zone Control a lot more then conquest. The comics looked great but I never watched them and the Cartoon never came out in English.
Then like 10 years went by with nothing and now this. First announced by AEG. Actually AEG even has pictures of the box and minis and stuff all with their name on it. Just as it was about to be released all of a sudden Fantasy Flight has the license. It's odd.
As far as I know AT-43 is still coming out. I see new minis for it on coolmini and such now and then.

looks like the same play system as Tannhauser, which I wasn't a huge fan of.

I didn't know there was a cartoon. The comic looks good, but there's only two issues of the original series, and then a three issue mini-series based on the world. I think the creators might have concentrated too much on concept and not enough on story. I can wait.

Yeah it seems like they had a great concept but spent more on marketing then concept. I fully thought the entire idea was dead and gone, until the press started coming in about this one. Sentinal: I don't think this one will be similar to Tannhauser (or however you spell it). It's got a similar look but the mechanics remind me more of Dust the Boardgame. Combat is done with special dice with hit symbols with tougher units rolling more hits. There's no customization or skills. No re-spawning. This seems more like a miniature game on a large battlegrid with 3" squares instead of 1". Here's a preview of the unit cards that remind me more of Warmachine then Tannhauser: You can see the dice and modular board here: www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=1486The one thing that will probably stop me from picking this one up is that it's another mini game that will require you to buy more units to make your army competative. I have enough half finished armies for enough different games already. It's at the point where I probably never have to buy a mini game again. Speaking of which, anyone up for trying out Gangs of Mega City One

Speaking of which, anyone up for trying out Gangs of Mega City One I'd love to play, especially if you've got this... miniature?

Nope sorry, no Fatties with Belly Wheels. Though I wish I had one. Actually I was being sarcastic, mentioning a miniature game I picked up and planned to get into only to never play. To Be Honest it looks like a great system. Somewhat like a Sci-Fi Mordhiem. The problem with it is the same one as Mordhiem; you need a bunch of gamers with their own gangs. I would actually try to convince some locals to get into this one and give it a shot but there is one other problem with this game, it's out of print and finding aplicable minis would be very hard. Though this can be a boon as when they are found they are often cheap as the game wasn't very popular. I think I have a review written up... yep here it is: wgamingresource.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=bgreviews&thread=5989&page=1
