At some point after our first kid we picked up one of those lock together foam flooring things. It had the alphabet on it and provided a softer surface then our hardwood floors for little bodies trying to learn to walk. We haven't put it back out for the 2nd one yet but that days coming soon. I recently saw a facebook post about someone getting some great scenery from The Terrain Guy so I took a look. What I found is that someone took the idea of these interlocking foam blocks and applied them to wargames scenery. Brilliant! "EASY TERRAIN™ tiles are durable, versatile and portable. These interlocking tiles are made from high density foam rubber. Unlike traditional styrofoam terrain, these tiles will not break, chip or flake. They are so tough that you can stand on a tile without damaging it. This terrain system uses two-foot square and one-foot square tiles that are completely compatible, this creates more options for game table sizes. Tiles are 5/8 inches thick. Available in basic Green, Green-Brown, Desert or Dryland. The basic Green and Green-Brown may be used together on the same table." Check it out: theterrainguy.com/ezterrain153.html

You would have to get a TON of that stuff or the baby will never be to scale.
