Just in case there are some who don't know but would be interested if they did: the people behind Board Game Geek have launched a video game equivalent at www.videogamegeek.com. It intends to serve a similar function as board game geek - a community-driven repository of information, facilitating discussions, collecting, and trading amongst video game afficionados.

Known about that for a while and just didn't see the point personally. There are plenty of great amazing video game sites out there, ones that are much more user friendly then 'the geek.
Obviously some people seem to think it's a good idea as it seems to be popular enough already.

I think it's interesting that they're making a video game geek, but I'm not sure what they think they have to offer given, as you say, so many other sites already do what they do. My hope is that it ends up being more of a hobbyist community-driven site, when so many other sites are focused on professional reviews. We'll see if it makes a difference. ...I naively hope that somehow it'll be a site for, say, interesting discussions about video games as an artistic medium and stuff like that, rather than yet another site to insult people on the internet over their console/game preferences.
The main thing I find interesting about video game geek is seeing how their user-ranked list of games turns out. It'll be BS (how do you compare Civ I with PacMan or BioShock 2?), but it'll be interesting, anyways.

Just to kind of proove the point. If you are looking for game rankings there is no better site then www.gamerankings.com This site is an agregate taking reviews and scores from a ton of other websites and coming up with an overall score. You can look by system, by release date, all time, etc. Note Pac-Man is at 63.65% and Civ II is at 91.29%. Unfortunately they don't put numbers next to their rankings so I can't tell you the place these are at. So I guess there VGG may have one better.
