Times have changed and so have RPGs. In the last few years there's been a big movement to go back to RPGs roots. There's also a big push to make them something more than they are now. What style of RPG do you prefer?

I like almost everything, exceptions being Palladium and PbtA.

I'm still waiting for a unicorn game that manages to merge player driven narration to crunchy tactical combat. Like D&D 4E meets Dungeon World somehow. Obviously, this perfect game would be about space pirates.

Um... You just described one of my favorite games OF ALL TIME, GDW's Space 1889. Combat is miniature and tile based. Reach, speed, and maneuvers all matter. And then there are the air ships, and a heavily tactical combat system for aerial ship combat, where all of things plus range, timing, and facing (for broadsides) all matter.
And the RPG part of it (the part where we talk in funny voices) is wonderfully abstract, and has all sorts of room for improv and player-facing narrative choices.
