Just found a cool new site stuck out there in the web. This one is called Roleplaying Tips. It is, of course, a site dedicated to exactly that. I will let the sites creator describe his site as he will do a better job then I: "I created Roleplaying Tips . Com to help improve my own game mastering and roleplaying skills by sharing my roleplaying tips and tricks through my newsletter and then asking for feedback from avid roleplayers like yourself. In the future I will be adding new roleplaying tools and resources that I find personally useful and will hopefully help you too."There is a free article each week (this weeks being on roleplaying charisma). Subscriptions are free and the content looks great (though not the pretiest). www.roleplayingtips.com/index.php

Cool, thought of asking them to add a linked banner to their site? Advertising = more folks on here...

I am a little torn on that one. I did seriously consider it. The issue is that there are tons and tons of roleplaying forums out there. The biggest being RPG.nets host of sites. The goal for this board was originally to get local gamers together. Thus I asked Hugin and Munin to link us, as well as Imperial Hobbies and a couple stores from the states (none did).
Due to the fact that we don't seem to be getting members I am definately considering asking other sites to link. The problem is that the forum is still small, and I think these sites figure we may be 'fly by night' and disapear from the web anytime.
One of my goals is to go on other RPG boards and look for local gamers (Figure Southwestern Ontario and Michigan to be local for this) and ask them to join or put up links. The problem with this is not having the time to join 1000 gaming boards to advertise.
So I will ask the memebership? Should I change the focus and try to get anyone we can or should I spend my time trying to get 'locals'?

I don't think you should shift focus. The entire concept of WGR is to have a LOCAL gaming resource.
Hm... to attact more locals maybe make a flyer and post it at H&M (assuming they allow it) and perhaps in the student centre at the U. (as an aside, last semester I noticed flyers advertising the University Gaming/RPG Club, which appears to have been reserected from it's dusty past).

I should have called this the Windsor Gaming Society since that was the name for the old club. But when I created the page I was just trying to make a web portal and not a community.
I agree so far. Lets see what others think (all 3 of them)

The forum has tons of great content, just sitting there waiting to be checked out. I'm wondering how long it'll remain interesting to the 2-3 regular posters we have. Therefore, I have no problems with you seeking a wider audience for the forum.

I think trying out Pandora's idea first may be in order. Posting a flyer at local shops may generate local interest. I know the new games store was supposed to be running a forum but I don't see that anywhere yet.
Only problem is creating the flier. With build out happening in 2 days I haven't had the time I usually do to work on things like that. I guess another issue would be getting the flyer out to people.
It would have been really nice if H&M would have linked us.
We also need to get some of the people who should be on here to get on here. Overdosedpunkgod has mentioned many times about needed to get on here but never does. Hopefully he would be able to get some other gamers that we don't have direct contact with to join (his WoDarkness groups).
I have a feeling (as mentioned by Church) that there is plenty of stuff here for people to see, if they just stopped in and took a look around they would see what a great place this is/could be.

And I suggested the flyer... what... 2 months ago? If I thought I had any graphical skills I'd make an attempt. As for H&M, I can't understand that. It's free advertising for thier site and vice versa... but anyways, I'll shut up now.

Hmm.. Well now that I've realized that the annoying "Upgrading to V4 screw off whole we lock up your system" message is gone.. and I can be Visitor #4 or whatever..
I'm hip to the "Local gaming market" idea.. but you have to advertise where the local gaming market goes.. and historically.. that hasn't been in windsor.. which explains why windsor goes through gaming shops like kleenex.

Suposedly there is a thriving gaming community here, the problem is its a bunch of people who get together with their friends and thats it.
True to form that includes my group as well.
What I want this to be is a place where all those groups get together to share ideas, debate, share info and tips etc. I am not really looking for a meet people irl and find local gamers to game with as much as a sharing of ideas. If you make some new friends irl along the way great but not part of the 'plan'.
As for local gamers - we have one new member from our town. The GW store is packed every game night. There are gamers often in H&M playing something. The new place had a game of Shadowrun being run upstairs. There is a Gaming Club at the University again. We did spawn two Magic world champions. We personally know at least 30 gamers. I think the gaming community in Windsor is bigger then ever, its trying to reach them and convince them that this is worth while that is the hard part.

That's my point really.. they don't shop in Windsor (for obvious reasons) and well I suspect anyone playing in the GW store isn't going to are about much except what goes on in the GW store.. those people SCARED me when we were wandering around the mall that day... I hope H&M works out..
