Hello all,
Thardon made a suggestion that I thought was great and wanted to put in place as quickly as possible and here it is, the intro thread:
Please reply to this post and provide some information about yourselves. Let us know what you play, what you collect, your hobbies, whatever you want. This should be a good way to meet and greet our new membership as this board grows.

I am sure you can tell enough about me by the sheer number of posts on this forum but here goes anyway:
I am Gilvan Blight (a name I have used for a long time) otherwise known as NecroN on other forums (switched to Gilvan once NecroN started to be taken everywhere). The name comes from an old NPC I ran in the Warhammer Enemy Within Campaign.
I am the creator/administrator of The Windsor Gaming Resource. If you want more details on why I did this check the WGR homepage under The New Plan.
I have been a gamer all of my life. I grew up in a house that always had a computer in it (which was rare in the mid 70s) and a Father that collected Boardgames, Dungeons & Dragons, Computer games, and miniatures. Grew up playing video games and PC games pretty much constantly. Got into Miniature painting a few years after my Dad gave it up when I was bored one summer looking for something to do. White Dwarf 100 was my intro to the Warhammer World but back then I thought the game was called 'eavy Metal and it wasn't until years later that I got into the tabletop hobby. One summer (after the painting on) my Cousin and I were bored and were going through my Dad's old games (think I was 8) and we found TSR's Marvel Supper Heroes. Thinking this was a 'adult' complex game we didn't touch it but looked at the box alot. Still bored a couple days later we opened it (it was sealed). It took about half an hour to get through the basic rules (damn this roleplaying stuff isn't hard) and haven't turned back from rpg's since.
Okay enough biography channel. I play games - all kinds of games. I don't think there is a genre out there I hate or haven't tried. Other posts list what armies I own and my favourite games, my boardgame collection and more so you can dig up more info if you really want.
PM me about anything. I want this place to be a friendly place for great news, heated debate and a few laughs and will do anything I can to further that. Never fear to ask or comment.

great idea for a post. I've seen these posts on other forums and they're always very cool. Here's my blurb: I'm Church. Or if you prefer Church In Hell or CIH, or more recently pintbypint. The Church name comes from a song called strangely enough "Church" by the Canadian industrial legends Skinny Puppy. It stuck in the early 90s BBS days, although I sometimes went by the name of Adeptus. The pintbypint name comes from my major time and money waster - beer. More on that in a bit. I think I got into gaming when I was around 9. I used to love a hobbyshop at the local mall called "Leisure World", and they had an rpg section. Never really knew what it was, just seemed cool. I had actually picked up a copy of the AD&D Monster Manual at Sears that same summer, and wanted to get more stuff like it. The first thing I bought was a module that didn't make any sense, so it was promptly exchanged for the Dungeons & Dragons basic set. I wasn't hooked on it right away, no one else I knew was into it, until I met my friend Dan in grade 6. From there I got into other RPGs - mainly Paladium games - Robotech and TMNT. Also got into collecting minatures, I didn't really paint them then... still don't I guess. Anyways, kind of grew out of the rpg thing, got into "alternative" music and listening to tapes took up most of my time, along with Amiga computers and BBSing. Somewhere along the line I had my first beer and hated it. Eventually tasted some beer from fledgeling Ontario microbrewers like Brick, Algonquin, Upper Canada and Sleeman (they were a micro at one time!) and that began my love affair with malt, hops, and yeast. You can find my beer reviews here: www.ratebeer.com/ViewUser.asp?UserID=13929I also enjoy video games, board games and card games, and still listen to a wide variety of music.

Got pointed here from a post in Livejournal...
I'm in my mid 30's, been playing roleplaying games for almost all that time.
Tabletop/Pen&Dice - Chainmail, D&D, AD&D, Marvel RPG, World of Darkness, Paranoia, GURPS, Most of what Palladium put out, Warhammer in all it's variations. There are a ton of others but like most things the foundation games are the most memorable.
I've had a computer since the Timex Sinclair/VIC 20 days, played all the requisite games. Did a good deal of BBS'ing in the 80's mainly on the WWIV type boards. Currently I'm running an AMD system and playing World of Warcraft pretty much all the time I can spare.
I've had a few consoles, most are still in the basement. Right now, it's all about the XBox and Burnout 3. I don't spend too much time on it as WoW is my master.
I've got a PSP and really really really love the thing. It's beautiful. Next week I'll be able to surf the net with it, weeee!
I'm a struggling early adopter. I do my best to NOT buy the newest gadgets but sometimes I fail. Currently, my gadget bag includes:
Dell Axim 50v Pocket PC Bearcat BC246T Trunking Scanner Bearcat 780XLT Trunking Scanner Icom IC-R5 Scanner Apple Ipod Mini (Silver) (Mock Me!)
Oh yah, I love bags. I'm a guy and I'm a manbag slave. I have a ton of semi-expensive bags to carry my stuff. Maybe I'll talk about them later. For a taste, go Google Timbuk2 and Maxpedition.
I'm into SF and Fantasy books, favorite authors this year are Steven Erikson, George R.R. Martin and David Gemmell. Television wise, I watch LOST, ALIAS, Battlestar Galactica, Dr. Who, Inked, Miami Ink, House and ReGenesis. I'm a big Firefly fan.
Well, thassit. I hafta go work now and pay for my toys.

My handle comes from: I used Pandora on the local BBS's in the late 80's early 90's. Predictably it's quite the popular name in the global online world, so I appended "Green" to it. Green comes from a tagline I used to use on the U of Moo, Pandora Queen of Green, referring to my ass-whooping all green MTG deck. < Though as an aside I have to mention, I haven't played Magic in years. It was an evil all consuming habit I am glad to have put behind me.>
I love console based RPGs and tactical strategy games. Anything that doesn't require a twitchy trigger finger will get a second look from me.
My mom barred me from trying out D&D back in the 80's due to all those silly news stories about kids lost in the sewers, etc. I still managed to purchase the old red box set of D&D in about grade 8 but failed to convince any of my friends to play. So aside from a few sad attempts at playing D&D with my little brother... I didn't really get into roleplaying until about 13 years ago when I started dating GB.
I adore books of any and all kinds. I'm an avid book collector. I collect children's books, books on fairy and folk tales, and books on ancient Greece and Rome, as well as mainstream sci-fi and fantasy.
I'm also into comic books. Mainly non-mainstream stuff. (Elfquest, Promethia, Top 10, Fable, Tom Strong) Though I did collect Batman on and off for several years.
I'm studying classical civ at the U of W. I sell vintage toys & books online. Oh yes, and I'm married to the fool that runs this place.

Post by ThardonBlackfist on Aug 8, 2005 18:57:59 GMT -5
hmm.. been putting this off for ages.. but here's the basics..
I've known Gilvan for a LOOONG time.. He introduced me to tabletop miniature gaming when my parent's were fearful of D&D due to all the urban legends about players killing themselves off when their chars died and such.
Eventually I became a regular in pretty much every game he ran developing Thardon Blackfist as a recurring character in what might have been the funnest back of rulebook adventure ever.
Before gaming however I was an avid comic book collector, considering I had an allowance of about $5 bucks a week I think the several hundred (probably nearing the thousand mark) comics I own is pretty good. I finally gave it up when I could no longer compete against inflation of comic pricing which to this day I think is ludicrously expensive.
You'll find me refered to as many things in many places.. I felt Thardon was a little more appropriate for this forum than my other well known nick Demetrius from the seemingly gone UofMOO which in order to use I actually bought a university of windsor log-on from someone and managed to surf the net in the early days as the BBS's were closing down and Lynx was still a viable web browser. I still remember using the first image based web browser with awe in the U of Windsor computer lab.. in awe of the new world of computing that was being born.
Since then I've left windsor for the bright lights of toronto even though I don't seem to get to spend much time there.. I travel pretty constantly for work (entertainment lighting technician).
After a brief spat of gaming in residence in university in TO, my DM went out on a cruise ship and decided to move to Australia and marry an Aussie.
I went on-line and found IRC as a place to enjoy some rp in various forms.. as well as occasionally popping out into the withering world of MUSHing.
I read voraciously much to the disappoint ment of my pocketbook, tending to stick to sci-fi with a few fantasy and comedic fantasy titles thrown in here and there to break things up. I go through phases of also reading math and science textbooks and non-fiction.. but I usually get better eventually..
I'm married and have a home.. in otherwords.. I'm pretty broke...

Greetings,
I'm WiltChamberlain (a handle whose origin I won't get into now... but it isn't what you are thinking).
I started gaming early in life... Atari 2600, Monopoly, Sorry, Trouble, other 80's family games. As I got older my consol evelution when Atari-NES-Genesis-nothing for a while-PS1 (towards its end)- Xbox 9this past Xmas)
I started playing role playing in grade 6 when 'the new kid' in school showed up with a Robotech book and a set of dice. My older brother had played D&D for years so I had seen these dice before, but he never let me play because of the 7 year difference between us. Anyway, we started with Robotech, TMNT, D&D basic, AD&D, Marvel Super Heros, Rifts, Gamma World, Traveller, and I'm sure there are some I'm missing. Roleplayed A LOT in high school.
Then there was Magic: The Gathering... which I got into in Beta when my brother who was living in Waterloo at the time bought me a bunch of cards (since he actually had access to them up there). I played (and collected complete sets) up until Fallen Empires, when I kinda fell out of the hobby (i think I might have gotten a girlfriend around that time... hehe). I had 2 complete sets of Arabian Knights.
I had a weekly D&D game that I DM'd that kinda pettered out this past X-mas when my group discovered poker... D&D night became poker night... and we all felt a little more socially acceptable.
While I love RPGs and video games the true love of my life would have to be board games. I have too many to keep count of... many of which have only one play... and some with ZERO plays in them. It started with Illuminati (sure not technically a boardgame but still)... then I went the Settlers of Catan route, branching out to numerous other Eurogames, and what ever else caught my fancy.
Most recent addtions : Ursuppe, Modern Art, RoboRally.
Ummm.. I guess that is all I got about me right now. Always looking for a game.

Yo yo, I'm teh Sik. I was linked here by Night Parade. Played UT2004 with him for the past 1.5 years and also played the GW with him. I live in NYC so that makes me better than j00. (dont listen to those comments, I only get like that online and am no where near as full of myself in person) I started gaming with the board games...and got my Nintendo when I was 3 yrs old. i used to own the life out of Joust, Alpha Flight, and Mario Bros. I was leet by the time i was 4yrs old. When the Snes was released, I started playing the RPGs. Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Mana, Mario RPG, Final Fantasy VI. They are definitely my favorite gametype. I used to pwn up in the arcades on games such as Marvel Super Heroes, X-men Vs. Street Fighter, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. I got into Magic the Gathering for a while. i enjoy it but dont have the cash for cards or people to play with. Goin to the weekly competitions kinda made me feel MAD GEEK (no offense to you guys) so I only ever attended 2, and that was for the free pizza. Um.....what else.....I hate WoW....yeah....I hate it with a passion.......my gf is into it...but I've limited her game time... (thats how you do it brothas) Um...I'm waiting for Ps3, UT2007, FFXII, and Kingdom Hearts 2.... Yep, if I have more I'll add later. <3 Sik

Hi Everybody! I also caught the link here from Night Parade, though he and Sik know me by another name on that forum. I did play some D & D back in the later 70's, but then I moved and never found another group I was comfortable playing with. Played a couple times a few years ago, just to introduce my kids to it. One got really interested, and has since moved on to a group he plays with weekly. The other is more into UT and video games. My thing is books. Sci-Fi and Fantasy first, but I'll read almost anything that puts words in a line. (except romance. Shudder.) I even tried my hand at writing, but nothing published yet. (I should probably work up the courage to submit more!) Well, that's the short version, me in a nutshell. (my natural home)

Just thought I'd drop by, introduce myself: I'm Nate Petersen, of Neo Productions Unlimited and author of the customizable card game Final Twilight! Aside from that, I'm your average gamer psycho-weird, spend a good deal of time writing, gaming, and generally havng fun. And occasionally I get paid for it, woo! In regards to the CCG, Gilvan's already made a post regarding our recent release of our core decks as PDFs for a buck, so any questions, comments, etc. can be dropped there ^_^

Greetings one and all, My name is Kevin, and I am an avid gamer. I started playing games before I can remember, and I remember some parts of being three.... It started with family games around the Living Room like Sorry, and Trouble... which became Monopoly, Risk, and Scrabble. All of these games were fun, but normally resulted in me getting trunced due to my opponents being 12 or more years older then me. I lost touch with my gamer self for a while; it could have been lack of opportunity, or resenment for loosing every game for 4 years except that bitter sweet RISK victory I had when I was six. This all changed when Jeff Sprague brought the "Basic Set" of D&D to school one day. He didn't let me play at first because I was a little young, but after 2 weeks of constant nagging I was in! I haven't looked back.... During my years I have mostly stuck to what I could afford, or what friends have managed to accumulate. D&D, AD&D, D&D3E, Palladium Games (Rifts, Roboteck, TMNT, Superheros), Steve Jackson Creations, Magic: The Gathering, Battletek, Rune Quest (so awesome! So deadly!), Twightlight 2000, and a few Warhammer Skirmishers games now and again. And of course there were those endless nights of Vampire: The Masqurade... Dark Ages.... Mage: The Ascention.... When I couldn't find a gaming group I sought my refuge online with IRC DALnet, Undernet, and EFNet. I wasn't really much of a video game child, until I moved out on my own. I vaguely recall the endless hours that my eyes burned as I delved into the worlds of EverQuest, World of Wardcraft, Matrix Online, Ultima Online, Ragnorok Online, Rainbow Six, Operation Flashpoint, and most recently Counterstrike: Source. I played my first LARP 9 years ago, and my urge to play tabletop games took a sudden spike dowward. There was only the LARP... and it conqured all else. This is what brings me here today, I have ascended to a LARP enthusiest and ponder at where the world of gaming will take me next. I was not satisfied with merely playing the LARP, I had to make it better; so I purchased my own LARP, and currently host events for others to enjoy. Things have taken a slight turn and tabletop is reimmerging in my life... it's nice to see an old friend. My efforts in the Toronto area were not enough to satisfy the beast, and so I have branched out to run LARP games in Toronto, London and Windsor. I forsee a lot of driving in my future. Hi! Kez - the newb - here! Oh man, do you know how LONG I searched on the web for gaming in Windsor! And then I wake up this morning, try once more and here we are! *dances triumphantly* (This place makes the puny board I made in desperation look, well, puny.) Oh well.
Anyways, I am from London and moved to Windsor in the fall and I was amazed at the utter lack of gaming! In London you can't go a few blocks downtown without running into some decent eclectic shops! But finally I have found you Windsor Gaming!!
Yeah, so myself eh . . . I've been into roleplaying, writing and fantasy/sci-fi since I can remember. I got into rping hardcore in highschool thanks to the rpg club there. I've never actually played a canon tabletop, isn't that weird? Only homebrews. Took over the club in my last years and ran my own homebrews based off stories and failed comics. Highschool is also when I was introduced into the world of Larping. Not the nero stuff, I've been hearing about but the dreaded Vampire Larping. Played in and eventually helped to ST that, until the people drove me away. (I'm a gamer that plays for fun, so I really hate players that take the game way too seriously.) Hmmm? Yeah, thus ends my bio for now.
Blah, I like to babble. I'm primarily a LARPer, but I like tabletop too and console and PC of course! *Off to check out the LARP board*
(This may date me: But what is BBS? and WoW?) (edited at work: I love my job!)

Already said it in the Larp board, but welcome to our little, but growing group! Glad you found us. The original point of this place was for Windsor Gamers to get in contact with each other, we have grown much more global since then but I still try to feature local information when there is any. I know there are gamers here. I see them. I go to the mall and see miniature gamers at Games Workshop, I see people in the food court reading rulebooks, I see people Larping vampire (okay maybe they are just over dramatic goths), I know near everyone plays video games these days. They are out there, just need them to come here

Yeah gaming definitely seems more prevalent in London. At least as far as highly visible, storefront type stuff. We like to visit there to shop. >;-D Mainly, I think London has the best used bookstores on the planet.
BBS is short for Bulletin Board System. I guess the best description would be a local forum-like precursor to the Internet.
WoW would be World of Warcraft, a MMO (Massively Mutliplayer Online game).

With all of the new members on here lately, I thought it was time to give this a bump. Anyone who hasn't done so feel free to come on here and post an intro. What games do you play, how long, where, whatever you want. If anyone has a better idea on how to make this tread more obvious let me know, as we currently have people giving great intros in the middle of other discussions

My Name is Chris, born in Windsa and will Die In Windsa!!
Played everything from CCG's, to RPG's to LARPing! I sold everything but my DnD books and Warhammer Fantasy stuff. I'm currently into the Warhammer Tournament scene and go to quite a few large tournaments a year and plan to start a Warhammer club in Windsor by the end of this year.

Hi, my name is Kevin...but since there is at least one more Kevin on the board (and I assume more than that), you can call me by my nicknames: Monty or Xiongmao Hmm bio. Alright. 27 years old, finishing up my MBA at the U. Ironically I'm not particularly interested in the business world but I figured it would be useful for something. Thinking about pursuing teaching. Teaching what? Hmm, I don't know. Not interested in the PhD route. Another 4 years of this stuff. Yech. I wouldn't mind teaching highschool: Business, geography, history, math...whatever. History would be most fun I think to teach though. I've made some Chinese friends at University and they've got me interested in teaching English in China. Which would be cool 'cause I'm interested in learning Chinese. Interests. As for music, started back in highschool with Metallica, classic hard rock like Zeppelin, Grunge, etc. At St. Clair College got heavily into hip hop (mostly old school) via the Beastie Boys. My hip hop collection is pretty much complete as far as I'd like, so I'm moving on back to explore rock and other stuff...maybe start with blues somewhere. Movies. I like comedies (hence the Monty Python moniker), and ultraviolent adventure/action flicks (e.g. Kill Bill or Sin City). And all the Oscar type artsy stuff I like to keep on top of. Books. Barely ever read...but I keep buying books anyway. Games. Grew up playing videogames. Played Donkey Kong on my ColecoVision 24/7 when I was 4 years old. I lived for arcades. Anywhere I went, any town, any vacation spot, I wanted to know where the arcades were. Loved walking around them, all the games seemed completely different from one another, it was like there was no limit to the adventures you could have! Anyway, after Coleco, of course Nintendo, then got a Game Gear, then traded that for a Genesis...then got a Super Nintendo, and my last console was N64...seemed like mostly a waste...I don't know...other than GoldenEye I just fell out of love with videogames. At this point I see them mostly as boring playedout FPS's, with all games trying to be mostly impressive graphically, but the gameplay all sucks. I remember having a lot of fun with Wolfenstein 3D in highschool, that's pretty much all the FPS experience I need. I own a couple of PC games that I've never played because I don't have a good videocard and don't really want to buy one. Boardgames. Chess club in grade 5 and in highschool, but I'm not very good at chess. Never studied it properly, I don't know any openings etc. Tried Go online but I have no idea what's going on with that. I had a couple neat ones growing up like Survive! which would probably be fun to own again. In highschool got into D&D for I guess a year or so, and got into Magic for about a week and a half before I figured out the "fun to money spent" ratio rounds up to 0. My 2 big boardgame loves in highschool were Axis & Allies and Advanced Civilization. Loads of fun. After buying a really crappy boardgame for my nephew, Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring, I thought to myself "You know, there must be a website that reviews boardgames". Did a search and found BGG. So of course I want to play Puerto Rico et.al. All the Euro stuff. Wargames interest me but not their length and especially NO PAINTING OF MINIS!!! Up until now I've limited my purchases to very light games I can get family members and non-gaming friends to play. Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne and their ilk...and I'm looking for something a bit heavier and more interesting, but not something like Advanced Civ that will probably take many hours, so many that the game probably won't actually be completed. Over the last year or so there were a few rumblings on BGG about starting a boardgame gathering in Windsor, but nothing got going...until now! Did I leave anything out? Shoe size: 10 Blood type: O+ Okay, that's everying I think Looking forward to playing some games! See you next weekend!

Quite the intro Montey!
That arcade thing sounds very familiar. My favourite vacation when young were yearly trips up to Toronto, just for the fact my Dad and I would hit every arcade on Younge Street (well most of Younge street). I used to love finding the new game, and still do. I still keep an eye out for arcades even though they are a dying breed. Last trip to Cleavland found a Samurai game where you actually used a sword shapped controller and had to swing it. I loved it.
As for trying out some 'eurogames' our gatherings are the perfect place for this. I found BGG a couple years back and it has almost become a check list for me. Must have the top 10 games (much to my wife's chagrin).
For the Gathering planned on the 17th we will have a Catan varient and Hacienda for sure, but I could probably be talked into bringing Puerto Rico if people are interested.

haha yeah...and London's Dundas Street. Growing up, any time I heard we would be going somewhere in London I would say "Is that near Dundas Street???" I'm sure there were other things on that street, but in my head it was all arcades. They had guys walking around with quarter dispenser waist belts for change and everything. Awesome. I also tend to remember places and relatives in relation to the videogames I played there. "Do you remember Aunt Margaret and Uncle Jack?" "Oh yeah, at the convenience store down the street was the first time I saw Dragon's Lair." And it was always cool when my parents would shop for timeshares in Florida. They would get a tour, I would get to play Donkey Kong and Zaxxon coin-ops for hours SCORE!!! I was at Colosanti's in the last month or so and they had a sword wielding game similar to what you described, one kid was hogging it though. And Nintendo's upcoming console, the Wii will have a lot of motion-sensitive functionality in the controller, which might actually make videogames fun again, in kind of a dance dance revolution/eye toy/guitar hero kind of way, but on a grand scale. I would definitely be interested in Puerto Rico if you bring it. But I imagine most anything there will interest me too. I've never played the Settlers expansions so C&K would be interesting. Hacienda I don't know too much about but I'd give it a go too.

Hello My name is James Back many years ago when I was 15ish I used to go to the university of Windsor to visit some folks who liked to play with dice and paper. This was my First introduction to role playing..... lets say it stuck to the wall like well cooked pasta. I was born at Grace (hospital) 31 yrs ago I moved to Toronto when I was 17 ish .... its kinda fuzzy .... too much sauce I think Then I meet my wife we moved to Bobcaygeon ON ..... nice place to visit .... watch out for bad drivers with blue hair .... Long story short I am coming home (Windsor) as soon as we sell our house I have started gaming again and plan to continue I am very please there is still a gaming community with a pulse there Old Skewl gaming won't die on my watch Games/systems I have played D&D AD&D never really caught my attention Robotech was very fun Rifts again fun but i felt limited Manhunter very fun NightBane Fun Palladium Nice White Wolf vampire werewolf World of Darkness Larp (in Toronto and Peterborough) Cyberpunk 2013-2020 one of my favorite genres and system (with some tweaks conveniently it lends it self very nicely to tweaking) DeadLands Old school classic rules (NON-D20 and not the savage rules) mmmm spaghetti with meat Basically I will play anything as long as I can role play (hack and slash , Political posturing (larp) doesn't count) I also am I interested in trying my hand at running some games. I must warn I am very green I have ran maybe 2 games sessions in my life both flopped. Eh Practice makes perfect I can currently be found playing too much WoW Hellmonkey@thunderhorn horde anyways so thats me

Welcome to the forums Ghost.
Trying to remember a James from the Windsor Gaming Society and drawing a blank. You would have been there around the same time I was a regular, or perhaps even when I was the running the thing.
